Are you looking for "lionize?"

I can't help but read 'lionizing' as the equivalent of 'hounding' someone. Except with a giant cat.

Lionize has been the best insofar, in my opinion.  Other than that, maybe exalted?  But even then that sounds sort of haughty.

The main issue is that it doesn't describe trying to be respected as much as trying not to be disrespected.

I'm saying that I'm trying to make an effort to be accepted and somehow English thinks that's a bad thing.

In fact, based on my Facebook feed (which is full of 16-22-year-olds), it seems like people expect society to accept them regardless of what they do...

EDIT: Reddit comments on an article coincidentally about this very issue suggest that the word I'm looking for is "maturity" or something. I like "plasticity" a bit, but that's awfully nebulous and obtuse.

The will to fit in? Autohomogenize probably is wrong...

A classmate decided to try and hook me up with her cousin. Without telling me first. I was pretty startled getting texts from an unrecognized number.

Ignoring all my character faults, as well as my personal views on dating, I'm not amused by this at all. Especially since her cousin in still in highschool.

And the kid won't stop texting me.

quite rude of said classmate, but you're refusing to speak to a person because they're a little younger than you? you don't even know that cousin m8

well unless you do

in which case the number would probably be recognized

i mean - if you wish to refuse her advances, your call, but be as kind as to arrange a meeting and explain that you're not interested, a good excuse for not being interested would be appreciated too (spoiler alert: not being aware that the person exists will be a good excuse with proper wording)

Maybe the highschoolness was derived from the nature of her texts.

pardon me for considering that relationships don't exactly have to be centered on matters which require taking into account said legality ( ̄^ ̄)

Well, I certainly wouldn't be dating high schoolers. I could get in a lot of trouble for that, even if I weren't attached to someone who would kill me for it. :P

She's a highschool junior. I thought my use of the word kid would have made that more clear.

Though to be honest I wouldn't go for a senior even if I was looking for a relationship.

It's best to avoid the appearance of impropriety; generally, dating someone whom it would be illegal to bone is probably a bad idea.

Unless they're harming someone that's a reasonable expectation.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.
