Every time I inhale through my (stuffed up, I should add) nose my nostrils have almost been burning today.
It's stopped recently, but still.
Also my throat hurts.

I'm looking for a word with no negative connotations because I know for a fact that it's not a negative feeling, I'm saying.
Self-esteem?
Ooh. Isn't that that... conscientiousness thing? Seems close to the concept, anyway.

Sounds like it sucks.
Hope it gets better, I personally find nasal pain to be some of the worst.

Something like that, yeah.

Having just gotten over something similar to that i can say: yes it's terrible, so very terrible. However when you feel better it will be the greatest thing ever. Also by tissues if you need them, blowing your nose with toilet paper sucks.

So... You want people to like/appreciate you?

That's not negative, that's normal, bro.

I'm looking for a word with no negative connotations because I know for a fact that it's not a negative feeling, I'm saying.
Self-esteem?

Public opinion.

But the usage of that term itself contains the connotation that I think I'm larger than I am.

See what I'm saying?

Have you considered looking into languages that aren't as wretched as English? I'm sure there's a really good word for what you need.

Maybe that's a good word for it in English. I'm thinking it might have something to do with desiring status within a social group, which "esteem" pretty much covers, but it feels like "esteem" is a soft, powerless kind of social status. People appreciate you but that opens no doors for you.

Wait, if it's desire for power over other people, social or otherwise, you can't really spin that as a good thing :P

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

No, I meant power granted by the social support of other people, who give you that support because they want to reward you in some way for doing/being awesome. Kind of like, if you do cool things in our culture, the members of the culture will collectively grant you privileges. It sort of describes money, except that money can also be obtained anti-socially and with the disgruntlement of other people in your society. As such this more amorphous social status power is more likely to be ethically-obtained than money power.

EDIT: Also, "power" is power over other people or in relation to other people. At the moment I can't think of other types of power that aren't also pointless and/or boring.

Perhaps "honor" or even "reverence". It's tough.

It sounds like English needs to go mugging other languages again. Anyone know a language with an appropriate word?
