The world is ruled by despicable attention whores and I fucking hate it. On every unfortunate occasion that I'm caught within earshot of "entertainment" news, or a reality show, or even political news these days, I find myself trying with all my might to telepathically strangle people to death through the TV while mentally screaming I HATE YOU SO MUCH JUST DIE

I didn't get to be in a gifted program after first grade, because we moved and in the new district "all of their kids were geniuses."

No, they weren't.

No, they weren't.

In the 6th grade I spent half the day in the 'gifted' class, the other half in the remedial 'behavior problem' class.

Didn't get diagnosed with ADHD until I was an adult.

No, they weren't.

My school didn't have any gifted kids.
I agree with the state's assessment of my school.

Last year I got an academic excellence when I could have named five others who deserved it more than I did!

It's probably because I could bluff an A-mark essay in english :P.

Well, it is a language class. If you could bluff an A, then you probably deserved it. :P

Yea, it isn't so much about learning the English language, as it is analysis of English literature.

I hated English in senior high school. We didn't get to study anything cool like the works of Shakespeare or the writings of Lovecraft. No, their was no sloppy makeout session between a pixie and a giant sea monster. Instead we got to study 'Belonging', I shit you not, they thought that was a serious unit of study.
It is sickening that analysing crappy books is thought of as so essential that it is the only compulsory subject, yet something that we all use every day like maths is not. You know some people have trouble multiplying two numbers more than one digit long, and such people have to handle money on a daily basis? It is just cruel that we are forced to study some crappy authors attempt to relate to a generation he doesn't understand, instead of something useful.

The worst bit is that we were the first year that was forced into the horrific dribble that was 'The story of Tom Brennan', a book about how all poor people do is drink and fight and have emotional issues until they find a nice middle class girl to look after them.
The year before us got to read Enders Game. ENDERS FUCKING GAME! Envy ensured.

Luckily, my english teacher in high school had a hard on for Mark Twain. So it wasn't all bad.

And then we went on to read about the crucible, and I found it rather interesting! And it would have been better if our teacher didn't insist on relating it to Joseph McCarthy every two fucking seconds, and while I take that as a legitimate point of study, it had nothing to do with the fucking set curriculum! This is my fucking senior year lady, stick to the fucking topic! I need to know how to pretend that I am learning something about belonging and acceptance from all this bullshit, and how we should treat other people!
And seriously, the question was always framed as 'What did you learn from X', well sweet FUCK ALL, not because their is nothing to understand, but because I knew not to make baseless accusations before I hit fucking puberty! THIS IS NOTHING NEW. Your lame babies first philosophy class masquerading as an English class does not fool me for a second, I know this is belloni, you know this is belloni, let's cut the crap and admit that the hundreds of hours spend in this room are a total waste of time that was dreamed up by some politician looking to know what they are doing, when really they don't have a fucking clue what we should be teaching our children!
