Well, the whole idea was that plasma weapons were very powerful against armor, good against shields, but had very high energy consumption anda VERY short range

Perhaps plasma/energy weaopns should just be very expensive/short range and not be affected by traditional armour at all, instead only affected by force shields.

The problem with plasma ignoring armor is that any hit could cause instant death.

That's why it would be so expenive, or perhaps it could just damage armor and nothing else. Just throwing some ideas out there.

maybe I'll increase the damage multiplyer to 3x

Edit: Put a link to the newer version on the first post. (still haven't fixed plasma yet)

Even if the class is mechanically redundant, the items could balance it. For example, if it was a typical feature for a cannon to fire two shots (given equal damage to a plasma weapon) then as long as your cannon skill is more than 6, it's an accuracy advantage. Range could factor too. That and a range difference would be enough is a 50 damage plasma weapon costs as much as a 50 damage cannon.

Well, my thought was that they plasma was good for up close types, with cannons being superiour at a distance

How about range affecting both damage and accuracy? Plasma would have higher penalties for long range than cannons, but deal more damage for point cost. It'd also mean that missiles, which seem kinda meh to me right now, would have a reason to exist if they didn't suffer any damage penalties, although they would have a maximum range and dumbfire missiles would still have accuracy penalties.

Doing that with plasma would over complicate things a tad.
The deal with missiles is that they do really high damage, but are completely nullified against shields. They are a quick kill method

Okay, I'm back on track. Working on cannons and lazers. Note that things will likely be HORRIBLY unbalanced for a bit
