Flying antmen now? Wha?
« on: April 17, 2010, 06:13:36 pm »

I located a group of antmen (some blowgunners and spearmen with a queen) in the caverns guarding some food and leather.  I noticed that they were hostile, and wielding poisoned blowdarts.

I decided to employ tactics and dig around above them.  I would collapse one tile of rock right in their midst, but where it wouldn't destroy any of the items, then send the military in after the carnage/unconciousness.

Well, when my miner channelled through the cavern roof, one of the drone blowgunners flew (or jumped, I dunno) from his ground level through a full z-level of empty space and up onto the level the miner was on, causing panic and shooting his right hand full of blowdarts.

Bug or feature?  ;D

Feature.  Intended feature at that.  Drone antmen, like real male ants, have wings (and aren't afraid to use them).

The females, however, can't fly.

That's really awesome. Thankfully ranged weapons were nerfed, or this would have ended up even more Fun.

That depends on how awesome it is. I'd call it a feature.

It's a feature because it is a feature.  Like I said, it's actually one of those oh-so-rare intended features.

And, technically, it's also not a bug.  It's an insect.

If you put [INDIV_CONTROLLABLE] on the animalmen civ, you can fly around as a bat man or cave swallow man :)

Poisoned blowguns?

What do you really need to turn Elves into Dwarves? Mutation could make them grow a beard; insanity effects could make them evil-minded, aggressive, tree-hating cave dwellers, and instant, full necrosis of their lower legs could make them short.
