How do I make individual body parts give off gases when struck? This is what I've got so far, with some things remaining unchanged from the original iron man base:

I've also tried attaching the gas to other parts just in case the game is taking 'lower body' as 'lower body and anything further away than the lower body', but no, attack the creature anywhere and it loses all its gas.
As far as I can tell that's two different materials attached to two different parts, but the game is still treating the gaseous layer as a whole-body part.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

2 Does any one know of a good program to make sprites? I used paint on some I mess with but it was a pain to work with.

GIMP is free and open-source, and basically replicates the functionality of Photoshop, although it can be a little clunky and difficult to get used to, because it's got features bursting out the seams.

gimp is a little overkill for sprites, what's the problem with paint?

That's disappointing.  I've bumped up against this problem a few times, without trying too hard to solve it, but it looks like you've tried all the things I was thinking of trying to fix it. :(

However, I do know how to make a body part give off gas every time it's struck.  Basically, just put a layer of gaseous tissue (without TISSUE_LEAKS).  The tissue will give off a burst of gas each time it is struck.

Hey, that's even better, thanks. Can I give that a high temperature directly (I've read bits here and there on temperature, and with the exception of stuckin ammo or vapor breath it all seems a bit hit and miss), or will I have to inflict horrible burns via syndrome?

^If you give the substance a high temperature and a low boiling/heatdam point, it'll likely do heat damage to nearby creatures. However, I believe that syndromes are generally more powerful and reliable.

Anyway; I hate to repost this, but it seems that nobody has acknowledged my previous post.
I'm trying to have a race that:
a)Does well in worldgen
b)Is almost always at war with the dwarves.

However, I'm not having much success. During worldgen, my custom race (as well as dwarves) seem to invariably end up with at most three settlements each, while human and elf civilizations control vast swaths of the globe. They additionally seem to never be at war with dwarves. What am I doing wrong?

Not really sure, but I think their biome options are too limited. Either gen a world with lots of joined up deserts, or give them more support in grasslands. I had a look at the biome support figures for trolls vs. humans, and it looks as though humans are more focused and have more routes to expand. Ocean and river biomes trace long paths through DF maps, and there are normally huge swathes of forest (for the elves) and plains too.

No idea about war, sorry.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Do they eat more based on weight or is there a way to make them eat and drink more? The heavy centaur breed is pretty powerful in steel plate (one was over 1000 kg! Must have been a shire! :D ) and I think they need to pay for that. It'd be nice if armor required more bars to make, also, but I know that's a bug.

Will they still drink and enjoy alcohol if they are not alcohol dependent? I'm assuming the ones that say they like dwarven wine will drink it if it's available, but most of the time will drink water and be satisfied? Are river and well water more desirable than ponds?

Is there some way to make it so they do *not* enjoy being indoors for long periods of time? Complete opposite of dwarves. I think it would be neat to design above ground stables? Hmm, are stairs hard coded?

And I'm still not entirely sure how to add more lower body organs. And I'm not sure why the lower body from the Genesis version has so little information in the detail plan.

They'll behave exactly as dwarfs do with the exception of not slowing down when sober. That means they'll drink booze whenever it's available, and default to water if it's not. And yeah, rivers/brooks and wells are better than ponds in general (I can't remember if there's an explicit good/bad thought about such or not).

It's impossible to modify thoughts (right now) so removing cave adaption is the best you can do. Besides that, I don't think there's any real distinction between outdoors and indoors aside from sleeping on grass/rocks, being caught in the rain/snow, etc..

Yes, along with all the funiture and such.

Body files. You'll probably want to make an entirely new entry just for centaurs, containing the body, organs, etc., all in that entry (because you're going to have to make plenty of new things either way). There's a bit more on this in the modding guide.

No, because that plan is used for defining hair. The basic, generic, detail plan(s) in Genesis should already cover the centaur body as it's implemented there (assuming it uses generic bodyparts found in other creatures).

So, I gazed too long into the abyss, and now I'm trying to make a 'My Little Pony' mod for Dwarf Fortress. The civ file is currently just a slightly tweaked version of the dwarf civ, and the creatures are posted in the spoiler. They're probably a nightmare for anyone who knows how to do this, as this is my first real modding attempt. Apparently, something I did makes the game explode, either when placing civs or a year or two into worldgen. Any clues would be helpful, as I think I've fixed any redundancies and contradictions.

Alright, thanks. I didn't understand how castes worked with genders. I'll see if I can get it working now and clean that up.

EDIT: It now gens correctly (at least it seems to). However, it now crashes upon attempting to view the 'Thoughts and Preferences' screen, though that seems to be it so far (i.e. 'Relationships' works). I'll see if there's any other duplication or lingering beast/pet tags to remove. EDIT II: 'Description' in Adventurer Mode fails things too. Maybe it's because I removed horses as pets, but it's still possible to "like horses for their <whatevers>". I'll try putting them back in.

No, liking is done as a PREFSTRING, which is part of the creature's entry itself.  No creature = No PREFSTRING = they don't exist.  Period.
I would look at your descriptors, as crashes in the thoughts/preferences (which also lists the creature's description and the descriptors!) are generally attributed to that.
