Or you could just catch them in cage traps and let them starve. They'd starve anyway, as they can't feed themselves fast enough, but if you don't trap them somehow, they'll probably leave the map before they die.

That, or you could cage them, then tame them, then slaughter them.  Butchering one of those takes a really long time, and slaughtering is instantaneous.  Just don't let it starve or die after becoming tame, or it'll become unbutcherable, and there's nothing sadder than a tame elephant corpse that you have to atom-smash.

Or you could cage it, move it to an arena, then release it and let your dwarves kill it there (and then butcher it).  If you wanted the extra weapons practice.

So, I've caught some goblins in my cage traps. I'm trying to pit them in this, but my dwarves don't seem to recognize that the goblins exist. They also can't seem to understand the idea of the raccoon in the cage next to the goblins either. They did try to pit a panda I had caught (which was the only thing I could order to be pitted), but it got away.

Why can't I pit them?

they will escape if they are thieves.
you will have to build the cage and manually link it.

They're swordsmen, hammermen, and a lasher. The game just won't give me the option to pit them.

Did you forbid their cages, perhaps?

I d-b-c, d-b-d, and unmarked the cages themselves before trying to pit the goblins.

Webslinging forgotten beast!  Well, the description says that it creates webs.  I saved the game out of nervousness.

Has anyone made a successful FB web farm?  Does anyone have any pointers?  I want to do this right*.

Forgotten beast webs are broken at the moment.  Their description claims they have webs, but they're missing some key creature tokens and can't actually make webs.

My tamed grizzly bear just tackled a goblin with a silver whip into a nearby lake and then fought the goblin until he (gobby) drowned.

A season later, I realize that my bear was alive and had someone swam out of a natural lake that has no channels into it. Can creatures swim out of a lake with no channels? My dwarves seem to be lacking that ability :/

Or did some dwarf say 'Hey, you get back into zone 04 beast 103!' while reaching into the lake and pulling the bear out?

Creatures with SWIM_INNATE can climb out of 7/7 water without a ramp. So pretty much all natural swimmers (like bears) can climb out with no trouble. Knock your bears into the pond with a clear conscience, to them it's just a nice cold bath.

Go try it and see, and material makes no difference (except for wood, which is the only material that can be destroyed by BUILDINGDESTROYER:1 creatures)

No, nothing can get through a locked hatchcover from below. Except thieves. Ayup.

I just got into a fight with a human axeman. He died of old age midfight.
I ask a human for permission to stay in his house (he says yes) but when I wake up I'm sleeping outside. Why does this happen sometimes?
