Does refuse that's not in a stockpile and also outside eventually rot away?

It's mostly the vermin remains that take up too much space.

Well, and I'm building two big olivine walls around my fortress entrance. Constructing a roof over it. Filling it with traps. Y' know, fun.

How do i commit the mass genocide of the exceedingly large animal population in my fort? I was going to butcher them all, but its filling up my food stockpile and it seems to be a big trouble to slaughter them all. Is there a way i can just wipe them out, in a fairly simple manner? I lack magma, so scratch that.

also- is there a way to find out when exactly a dwarf died?

Unless you have pet elephants or building destroyer flagged critters, in which case, drop the ceiling on them.

I thought of this because i use a DAM for my dump, but how do you propose i get the animals to all get into one area, under a drawbridge already built? I cant build ropes or chains in the same area as a DAM. I guess if i got really creative i could figure it out..

I'm building an execution tower to get rid of some stone (why'd I dig that pit...). Pimp gold-coloured orthoclase execution tower, yeaaaaah boi. Problem is, most of my prisoners are goblin thieves, and I've heard they don't behave well while they're being transported. Should I first assign their cage to be built (read: hauled) to the top of the tower, and THEN for them to be assigned to the High Drop?

Also, can I restrict valley herbs to strictly for use in making golden salve somehow? I'm not sure if it even has other uses. If they don't, can I restrict the seeds (if any) to being strictly for farming?
Since nobody answered;
Yes, it's probably a good idea to do that, or have your military stationed by the cages, let the thieves out and cut them down. I'm pretty sure you can set if an object is allowed to be brewed/cooked in a submenu on the {z}Stocks Screen.

Make a room whose entire floor is the DAM target area. Drop the animals in through a hole in the ceiling.

This can be done in the "Kitchen" sub-menu. Valley herbs can only be used for cooking (and extracting golden salve), and have no seeds.

Create a dump zone on a tile the bridge is going to squash. Cage all the animals, d-b-d over the tile, and unbuild the cage.

I still can't get my chief medical dwarf, a high master diagnoser, to diagnose my best warrior.

All of my chief medical dwarf's jobs are cancelled except healthcare, and cleaning. He is "idle" the vast majority of the time, because no one else really needs attending to.

My warrior, Id, has several bad wounds, but doesnt ever need to rest, and my doctor dwarves never look at him while he sleeps.

What should i do?

If he's just resting, then he's been treated and is just recovering... or is he sleeping in his own bed?

He sleeps in his own bed. Gets up to train. Does everything a soldier does normally. Despite several red and yellow injuries, he's never "rested", he still needs to be diagnosed for problems, no doctor has touched him yet.

Is there a way to see all of the potential embark locations at the end of a search?

I am guessing that there is often more than 1 suitable embark point.  How do you look through all of the places found?

Thanks

Some injuries just get ignored. One dwarf was injured, had a couple of injuries ignored, deliberately reinjured, and had those same injuries reignored. I checked up on her exact wounds and they're a smashed nail and some smashed cartilage, neither of which have healing rates. One of both of them is pus-producing, but since all my soap is behind a dwarf dip I get one piece of soap spam every few months. No biggie.

I can't seem to build walls over constructed floors and it is really messing up my pillbox plan.  :-[ Is there some work around for this or should I give up having an archer tower covering my entrance?
