Every constructed wall or floor or other construct will deconstruct into its original materials when it falls.  So if you build a multi Z-level structure out of stone blocks and drop it, you'll have a pile of stone blocks.

My thanks. I am very glad I asked.

Every dwarf in my hospital has motor and sensory nerve damage. Is there any hope at all of recovery, or should I just go ahead with Project Kavorkian Spider?

Backup- What's the best way to go about it? I found an awesome volcano with tons of gold, aluminum, silver, copper, and other things, plus the geography, size and depth of the volcano, all perfect, and I DO NOT want to loose it to a failed fort, volcanoes like this one are VERY hard to come by (Ik from my 20 fail-canos I've found in previous worlds). Should I just copy the save into another folder somewhere else? Or do I do it some other way, as there might be complications I don't know about...

Twenty seconds after the collapse, 14 dwarves hit the ground simultaneously.
EDIT: make that 15. Not sure what took that last one so long.

Someone please?
It won't let me make animal traps in my carpenters workshops... dwarves have only carpentry labor's enabled and I have 100+ wood stored.

You need to activate the trapping labor (hunting subskill) on a dwarf

Giants can't be butchered.  Your dwarves won't butcher sentient creatures.

in vanilla DF, you cannot butcher sentient creatures.

Is it true that in the Russian version of the game, sentients can butcher you?

How do I manually assign?
Go to the [ s ] squads menu and choose a squad. assign them to following the route.
What button do I press. I can station them at the parts of the route, but nothing else.
I still need some help with this.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.
