Also, there is a crutch walker skill. BAH! WHO NEEDS CRUTCHES?!

You can define routes

Hi!

I just want to mention that I love the automatic fishery. At first it confused me as I got my manual fish cleaning jobs cancelled, but now, it is just so relaxing not to have to worry about that.

I remember looking through the new raws and I saw "Slade"..

it came AFTER adamantium... it had the [DEEP] tag... I was like

"this new-fangled Slade mineral is gonna be trouble"

and apparently I was right.

I'm currently PRAYING that the standing sword is trapped, so taking it will result in the room filling with lava, or gas comes out of the walls, or something like that.

Its about time that traps were fiends, not just friends.

So in other research prospects, has anybody yet dug deep into a site that is frozen year round? It would be cool (Pun FULLY intended) to see tunnels full of ice.

I tried sending some dwarves down to dig for it, but magma, water, and squads of BATMANS put a bit of a delay on that plan...

Here to report, a max skilled dwarf in full adamantine armor with a slade warhammer will destroy a BC without even taking damage.

slade is super crazy, though; 10 proficient dwarves with slade twohanded swords will carve a bronze colossus in twain in less than a second. 10 same skilled dwarves with adamantium swords will be slowly mangled and murdered; with iron swords, the colossus won't even take any damage
Arena:
Dwarf in adamantine plate with slade warhammer
vs.
GCS in adamantine plate

Results: Rounds 1 and 2, dwarf gets some terrific smashes in, GCS shoots webs.
Round 3, dwarf loses ability to hold on to slade winhammer.
Rounds 4 and on: GCS rips dwarf to shreds.

So I quickly generated a new world and embarked for a suicide mission to see what ice is like now. I have dug 85 layers down and have yet to see either underground river systems or magma, BUT WE WILL KEEP DIGGING!

From the amount of ore I have struck, I think living on ice might be a lot easier then before, as it would be all too possible to replace wood with metal. Just be sure to bring a bar of coal along and use it to fire up the smelter for the first time to make some more, unless your counting on magma (And DON'T!). I want a ice fortress now! Its on my to do list, and there are going to be a lot of metal bins.

The elves will be happy.

EDIT:
SUCCESS! At exactly 100 levels down we hit the chamber. I don't know about you guys, but every chamber I have found was full of water at the lower levels, so I was expecting a lot of ice, but there is none, just muddy floor. I shall dig further, FOR DWARVEN SCIENCE!

So I had 10 "great" dwarves with Slade axes and adamantine war hammers, steel and adamantine armor.

They mowed through....

14 Gorrillas wearing leather and iron. (Sadly, they wouldn't hold clubs)
5 Kungu Werewolves, with expert kicker, striker, wrestling, fighter..their leader had a longsword and iron plate. All dead.
6 Nightwings. This is where they started taking some real hits. One dwarf got shaken around by his damaged left hand, and the damn thing can off.
1 Dragon. This wasn't even a blip on the radar.

At this point, I decided to test the B. Colossus.

Suffice to say, I couldn't kill it. They cut off it's hands and legs, left it thrashing on the ground, and then proceeded to beat it silly for 30 turns. Hundreds of fractures and shatters.

And yet, every once in a while, the handless colossus would push, hard enough to shatter bone through Steel Armor.

Eventually I called in a second colossus. He tried crushing the downed colossus' head, but to still, couldn't kill it.

Finally I spawned 6 dragons, and that was pretty much the end of everything.

After some exploration of my new cavern, I found a tunnel heading down (It paused to game to inform me of this fact, so it seems to be an important feature) and going down that I got another message about another cavern. This shall be interesting.

I HAVE FOUND IT!
For years, dwarfs have avoided glacier environments for the simple reason that they lack trees all together. After digging deep in the earth this seemed to be true even underground, but given enough digging I found a cavern so rich in trees, I had to call in some wood cutters to get through.

LET IT BE KNOWN! A productive fortress in an ice climate is now possible.

PRAISE BE TO THE BLOOD GOD! We have stuck something blue and funny, and it ain't microcline! There is a problem though, and get this, it is all underwater! Trees, water and fun, glaciers have it all and can now be played! The dead flat surface makes things easier to spot in a siege and with any luck the cold would kill a goblin army before they get bored, therefor any siege could be solved be locking them out and getting the remains later.

Slashing weapons are awesome now.  Wolves are no longer a mortal threat in Adventure mode.

The requirement to irrigate underground farms in Fort mode, however, is seriously limiting.  There should be at least SOME very low value plant/fungus that can be grown in non-irrigated conditions.

I've noticed Slade in the thread and the Raws.  Didn't feel the name had enough zip.  So I just renamed it Armok's Beard.
