Yeah, WTH is with that, i have not spent much time in the Cordon but when i return from the Dark Valley he is gone, and i never returned for the reward for clearing the farmhouse of pigs

He is supposed to disappear, was he replaced by some dude? (He disappears at a certain point of the timeline.)

Ashot!! . Dear christ he was annoying in Clear Sky.. It was so therapeutic to install a mod that allows you to draw weapons in faction bases and just unload a Desert Eagle in his face time and time again... However, I'll give him that he isn't as annoying as Hawaiian in Call of Pripyat...

^^ Yeah, Wolf pretty much always dies in that barrel. I guess it has to do with the fact that GSC made it that the A.I could avoid anomalies but for some reason that ability was disabled in vanilla and since campfires are anomalies... Well, that has lead to more 'an a few hilarious sightings of human barbeque in Stalker encampments  :D . Oh, and Aqizzar, don't get put down by the initial difficulty. SoC has a weird difficulty curve in that it's actually harder in the beginning than anywhere else in the game, save for the last 15% or so. I actually liked it this way since I don't like games that pamper the player for the first few levels and hold the players hand like an extended tutorial or something. And Master difficulty is recommended since even if you take less damage, you'll also dish it out more as said previously.

I'm currently rocking out with SoC Super Mod Pack 2.4 and lovin' it so far. I'm experiencing crashes after around every 5 or so savegames(mostly when saving the game, whether it be a manual, quick or autosave) but it's no biggie since SmP has all the best features of AMK mod, some good A.I mods and Arsenal mod which adds like a hundred or so well done weapons to the game which really adds some much needed variety and improvement to gunplay which was a little disappointing in vanilla. I made a friend by healing a loner that got wounded in a firefight in the Garbage, gave him a Vintorez and brought him along to Dark Valley to hunt some bandits and soldiers with..

In the future I'm eagerly waiting for Stalker: Lost Alpha to be finished and AMK: Narodnaya Soljanka to be translated so I can check out those as well..

I think in SoC there's some armour or something in the top floor of a building in the starting village.

But the only way to get it is through some tricky roof-hopping, and I'm not sure if there's actually anything good up there.

I grabbed it, it's an awesome merc suit that is way better than what you start with.
That is, if you're playing a patched game.

Best gun in the game is the Vintorez.  Perfectly accurate, silent, scoped, quick and light enough to be used in close combat.  Also, it doesn't do the thing the Dragunov does where it shoots like ten feet above the point you were aiming at.
Neither of those things is true. The vintorez has a spread worse than a TRs 301 at medium range, and the bullet falls so much in flight it's almost impossible to use at longer range. The dragunov, in comparison, has almost no spread, will drop a man in an exosuit on a headshot, and the bullet falls a negligible distance-even at long range you only need to aim at the top of the target's head to hit them at eye level.


Also, lol fires. Wherever there's a campfire or burning barrel, there will be bodies all around it. It's a good way to get a metric shitton of loot, since it's usually just generic nobody stalkers. It is annoying when important ones do it, though.


The problem that made me stop playing clear sky was how buggy faction warfare is. I've secured the roads from the garbage to agropom, and taken the road in agropom, and gotten bored and wasted my time killing the unending tide of instant-respawning duty squads (with my dragunov and TRs 301 <3 ), but freedom never moves up to reinforce my position. I've sat doing nothing for half an hour, and no squad is sent to reinforce me. It pisses me the fuck off. >:|

Freedom usually works for me. It's usually the Stalkers who don't work. I've also had a problem with Duty once, one of the points I had to take was held by Stalkers, not Freedom.

That happens. The squads won't move up to kill them, so you have to do it yourself. I've had to do it a couple of times against the loners, and the faction's stayed neutral.

Hunger also glitched out for me, so I don't need to eat to survive. :/

It just occurred to me that we've had this conversation in every stalker thread, and that's probably the second time in this thread alone it's happened, so all I can guess is that OL, steaming pile of horrible and shit that it is, fucks up the godly dragunov, and makes the normally-shitty vintar absurdly OP. The vintorez fires heavy sub-sonic rounds, due to the extremely low velocity of the rounds it takes a long time for them to reach their target, meaning they have more time to fall and go off course (and for the target to move/change course).

Or else you're trying to use the dragunov like a vintar, and aiming into the sky to hit someone on the ground.

Oh man, funny story about that.

You know that guy who wants you to help save his friend from bandits in the dark valley?

I helped him once, but couldn't save the guy.  He gives me this angry speech, turns around, and indignantly walks away, right into a vortex.  Funniest thing I've ever seen, one second he's walking off, holding back a single manly tear for his friend, the next he just blows apart.

There was also the time I met Skull.  I thought skull was a total badass when I first saw him.  That black and red exosuit, that name, he kicked ass.  I helped him take the Army Warehouses.  He blew the wall, got ready to kick some ass.  Before the smoke had cleared, a sniper hit him in the throat and he dropped like a  sack of potatoes.  Weak.

I always liked Orest for some reason, the perfect neutral loner and a good fighter, judging from how he picked up a dead allies gun and murdered all the bandits on his floor.

Meanwhile...
I would play multiplayer but there are usually either empty rooms or everyone speaks Russian/Ukrainian.

Just because you guys put the effort into making me like Stalker, I'm dropping in to say that, now that I've realized I can just bribe my way through the checkpoints and my sawed-off can kill anything in handshaking distance, I'm actually enjoying the game now.  And I got a free AK-74 from a checkpoint guard who got killed by a boar.  Game's cool.
