Yeah, once you get over that first mission hump things smooth out a bit.

It gets harder though.  Pripyat is rough, especially the apartment complexes at the beginning.

Pripyat is:

Once you pass Pripyat though, you can't go back, so it's the game's final playground. After about 2 hours there, I had no desire to keep clearing.

Just because you guys put the effort into making me like Stalker, I'm dropping in to say that, now that I've realized I can just bribe my way through the checkpoints and my sawed-off can kill anything in handshaking distance, I'm actually enjoying the game now.  And I got a free AK-74 from a checkpoint guard who got killed by a boar.  Game's cool.
You can cross the tracks to the east of the checkpoint, there's no fence there. You just have to give the checkpoint a wide berth because the guards will start shooting at you if you do that.

I should note that if you go too far east, the tracks are irradiated, but you'll notice that when your screen goes black and white and starts crackling.

Also, be wary of several serious glitches, including one that kills the good ending.

Oh and I feel like replacing my guy with some Loner from Stalker. You know, the ordinary ones with the Stalker Suit and the black face thing covering their mouth and nose.

Y'know what I love?  Getting into a gunfight right on one of the area-loading borders that you just run into at really inopportune times.  It's bad enough that I can be running along, then freeze for a solid minute before I suddenly find myself surrounded and shot to Hell; it's another thing that I can pick them off at range, then hit the loading border and two of the dead bandits suddenly resurrect.

Question: when you take a screenshot, where does it save the file?  I'm playing via Steam of course.  I have a really great picture of a Stalker who got shot and did a backflip-handstand into a campfire.  God I love incompetent ragdolling.

Never saw anything like that in CS.
I have gotten into a gunfight with about 10 bandits at one time, though. All 10 threw grenades at the exact same time, without any one of them using those those corny taunts beforehand.

Here's a tip: Try to not piss off the bandits as much as you can. Before you go through a bandit checkpoint either buy a lot of shit or upgrade the shit you use.

And their Mechanic, Limpid, gives shitloads of rubles for upgrade information in Clear Sky.

I had something like that happen today.  I went into the Wild Territory just as six or seven mercs were heading in.  As soon as it loaded they tore me up.  I had to sleep a few hours and go back in so they had already gone through.

Also, you know how the Encyclopedia says mutants are heading to the WILD Territory from all over the place?  They were right.  I was heading back to the bar after selling a bunch of artifacts and mutant parts to the scientists (Who buy same for 1.5x the normal selling rate.  XBox-hueg profits) when I hear gunshots like crazy.  They keep going for like a full minute, I thought the mercs and ecologists were at it again.  Nope.  Turns out two bandits were getting torn apart by a pack of 20+ blind dogs, headed by six or seven pseudodogs.  As if that weren't retarded enough, there were some giant rats and a bloodsucker tagging along.  The last bandit dropped just as I came into view, and the whole mass turned to me.  My life flashed before my eyes.

Why the hell did I find a Stone Flower artifact in the Clear Sky base?
And how the fuck  I can't sell it?

In the CS base? Are you sure it wasn't that area you go to at the start(which it shouldn't either, that's supposed to be a Jellyfish)?

Who are you trying to sell it to? Cold doesn't take artifacts(but he buys vodka and food at cost, and has infinite money), but I'm pretty sure the CS trader should(he certainly buys the Jellyfish). If not, try waiting until you get to Sidorovich. If he doesn't take it, then you've likely found a bug, or a modding error(if you're using mods). The Zone is full of strange things, after all.

By the way, does anyone know how to get that stash in the safe on the third floor of the brain-rape building in the Yantar factory? It's positioned face-down, so I can center my view on the door, meaning I can't open it.

Yep, I found it RIGHT in the CS Base.
I accidentally pulled out a Veles Detector I found and then there was a huge green dot in front of the guide. I waltz over there and lo and behold, an artifact.
