Are you using the SETA? The singularity engine time accelerator? If not, then look into it, pretty sure it is covered in the tutorial. If so and it is still too slow for you then look into buying a jumpdrive ASAP, and if that it still too slow for you, this may not be your game. Yes much of the game is spent traveling, but there is soo much to do you need that time, or soon will after starting fresh, to plan what you are going to do and to read up on how to do it, not to mention figure out the controls to do it with. Trading is pretty slow yep, that is why you can have it automated by hiring ships to do it for you, well buying new cargo haulers and hiring ship captians in some mods, but not in the vanilla game. Combat is a hard way to make money for a newbie, but it is fast and intense. Try running through the story if you are bored of trading and set your trade ship on auto, read about best price software/hardware for your ship.

Read the user made guide I linked a few posts back, go to the newbie money making guide for more details. Worse case, look for a money cheat and go buy the jumpdrive and have cash for repairs so you can get right into combat if you are totally sick of the game, at least you will have not wasted the real money buying a game you think you hate. After that if you still dont like it, well then that sucks.

Hmm I just started Story Mode on Hard since I wanted a challnge.
Looks like you get a Ship that's pretty much worthless.
Do the Story-missions net you some credits and better ships/equipment?

Oh well I probably start over as a trader again.

The reunion storyline gets you a free transporter+hyperdrive and with patch bonus content a nice ship later on. Though I have a hard time seeing you getting through those missions in the hard mode crap fighter unless you get real lucky or take some time early on to salvage a few secret abandoned ships for parts/sale. Not sure about TC though, never got to play it.

Usefull comment.

Well that sucks. I have looked far and wide and not even heard of the SETA. I have now plowed every single place I could think of and it sits there, right in the controls window.
I heard of seta and didn't really know what it was, so I searched for it. On google, the x-universe forums, and the official forums. It yielded no results. so I just thought it was some obscure story thing.
It is weird when I thing of it, since it's such an important thing(it seems) , then shouldn't a search yield at least ONE result in the forums? I might have messed up, or it's the damn net at my place messing things up again, as I has done countless times before.(including forums searches before, so I should have known..I think)
Sorry then, I'll be going, actually enjoying the game. Thanks a bunch.

(although I find it annoying that there is no tutorials, except for the combat ones. And a tutorial could explain this.)

Forum searches are never reliable. Some of then can't find anything at all...

I really want that one as a "when". I want "grubs", and "virgin woman" to turn into a dragon. and monkey children to suddenly sprout wings. And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.

I played X3 before getting XTC, but can you start a fresh story mod game, a standard X3 "story" game with what version you have? I know I cant with my current game. However, the story walks you through with a tutorial, but it is very basic. If you are fustrated try that guide I mentioned out, and if you still can't find the answer you need, don't hesitate to post a question here. I have no clue what the Egosoft forums are like myself, but you may want to check there also.

So now I've earned 100k with trading.
I'll start to do some mining soon.

Can anybody reccomend me some guide for the different ship classes?
Because the whole lot of them is confusing to me.

As in the M# stuff, or the actual different types of ships each race has to themselves? (Argon Nova, Teladi Falcon, etc)

TS: Freighters, they have large cargo bays and only a turret to defend themselves
TP: Personnel Transporter, Smaller cargo bays, a little bit faster then TS, needed for some transporter missions, oh and they haul marines quite well.
TM: Escort Carriers, can base 4 fighters. Quite useful when you don't have a TL or anything.

TL: The cheapest Capital class ship, Most can carry a few fighters (Split one can carry 17) Slow and large cargo bays, can transport station construction kits to allow you to build stuff. Personally using an Elephant as my flagship/personal ship.

M5: Scout Fighters, fast and lightly armed, fodder though you can give explorer software to scout sectors for you.
M4: Light/standard fighters.
M4+: Basically improved m4
M3: Heavy Fighters, most commonly used, Most are damn good and you have alot of variety, at least half of them have rear turrets which are important as they can shoot down missiles for you which is a life saver, works good as AI wingmen and Carrier Air Groups too.
M3+ Multirole/Very Heavy Fighters, Basically M3s but bigger badder and more kickass.

M8: Bombers, can only fire missiles except for defense turrets.

M6: Corvettes, Fast as fighters,  more heavily shielded. More weapons, Turrets, Big easy to hit targets though.  Personally using my free Vidar as my main combat ship.
M6+ Even better.

M7: Frigates, Smallest capital ship.
M7+ Bigger Frigates I believe, Split have one that is a light carrier (32 docked fighters)
M7M Missile Frigates, like bombers and they have the ability to fire boarding pods full of blood thirsty marines allowing you to Capture stuff M6s and above.

M2: Destroyers, the Biggest baddest ships.
M1: Although not as powerful as destroyers, they can dock like 60 fighters.

Both actually.
Ridler answered the first part (Thank you for that).

The secound part would be to identify what ship is behind the fancy name the shipyard offers.
What are they used for, what is theri cargo capactity, weapon slots, what do the variants offer etc.?

Unfortunately neither the manual, nor the guidebook say anything about that.
Did you have to figure it all out for yourself?

Oh and my Credits are above 150k now.
That far I'm just upgrading the cargo hold for my freighter(everything elese worth upgrading is at maximum).
What should be my next goal?
Buy another freighter for more trading?
Buy mining equipment?

The ingame encyclopedia keeps info on most ships you see, so you can see their stats and stuff
Although there's also this site, albeit pretty spoileriffic. I'd watch my step if you don't want some ships spoiled. - http://eng.x3tc.ru/

Ship variants are a bit difficult to pin down. Generally they would follow something like this:
Raider - Faster and more maneuverable, weaker shielding (but higher shield regen, go figure)
Vanguard - Better laser regen, somewhat faster, better shield gen
Sentinel - Higher shielding/shield regen, slower
Hauler - Higher cargo bay, higher shielding as well

But that's not always the case, and each one will be doing something different. Those are what most of them have though. In most cases the variant is better than the vanilla form, but in some cases they're worse!

And for shipyard "variants" as the S, M, and L, that dictates how much stuff you get in the package.
S is bare bones with no weapons and minimal shielding, you need to equip it yourself.
M has a few things on it. A couple shields, some weapons, maybe some upgrades?
L is very well kitted out. Well shielded, has some weapons and upgrades. You'll still need to get it most upgrades though, and it won't have all weapon slots filled.

I never got why they call M8 bombers when they only use missiles.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

Wouldn't ,in space, a bomb and missile be basically the same thing?  Actually aren't missiles just bombs with propulsion systems?

Personally I think their called bombers because they are the the X3 equivalent of WWII Dive/Torpedo Bombers.

On the topic of my current game:

The ACCS Shaman (My TL Elephant) has been working Near constantly in Paranid space putting up factories around Dukes Domain, must of did like 7 Station construction missions in a row.  Made good money though and I'm up to 30 mil, about 30 more and I'm going to buy an M7M and start forming an Elite Marine contingent for boarding operations. (Actually the ACHS Lost Pride has been in BlackHole Sun training a group at the local military base, already)

I don't want to sound rude nor anything but I've never used any guides, forum or wiki for X..everything is in game.
You could of course spend a whole day getting a hang on the controls and it's hotkeys, but ship information and stuff is all there.

Target the ships and look at it's info (how to do this is pointed in the Controls menu, its been a year without playing X so I don't remember those), I believe you can press another key to get even more info about the ship.

Jumpdrives can get expensive in the beggining of the game. X3:TC makes it a lot easier to get one, but if you're playing X3:R, wait a bit for it.

I'd tell you to make your first stations a Wheat Farm on The Wall sector (near to Argon Prime), with a freighter to resupply it and another to sell it's produce.
Then, wait a while to get some money and build a SPP on the sector below it (I really don't remember it's name, but it got a lot of Cattle Farms I believe, or Food Processor stations (forgot the name ...).
Get a freighter to buy Power cells and two freighters to sell their stuff..this will net you some money.

And PLEASE no one forget about SETA, I believe it's the J key to speed the game up.
Also, go on OPTIONS and change SETA accelaration rate to 1000% instead of standard 300% or 600%, this will make you a lot happier.

Wait until you guys get like 15 universal traders.
I'm sure your thoughts about it will be the same as mine when I was playing..
(OMG I GOT SHEEPS EVERYWHERE JUMPING AROUND)

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

I actually just stick at 600% SETA, Its fast but managably fast, besides I bugger around with a TL all the time and at higher SETA levels the more M5s smear themselves across your windshield.
