Not to be a stickler, but Cruisers are way bigger than that stuff you're using right now.  I'd put you more in the destroyer range.

Not to be a stickler, of course.

Class designation is completely arbitrary for the game.

Edit: If you're largest ship is 5k, then its a could be the heavy cruiser of your fleet.

So I wonder if you can put MIRV missiles inside of MIRV missiles inside of MIRV missiles inside of MIRV missiles

That would be... uhm...

I think you can.

you probably could....but the launcher would need to be huuuuuge.
Say your detonation warheads are size 1, with the second stage carrying 5, plus fuel and engine etc will be about size 10,
If you put 5 of those inside a guided missile that will need to be minimally 60 or so.
AFAIK size24 is the maximum size of launchers...unless there be tech in the far future that expands it. . . hangarbays can launch fighters/corvettes armed with mirvs. that should add a stage. ;)

I'm really enjoying this game so far, even tho it might have a few error messages.

One question: How do you get ships to escort other ships through jump points?

Add them to the same task group.  Keep in mind that the jump drive has both a maximum size per ship AND a maximum group size.

Oh, cause i tried putting some cargo ships (with jumpdrives) thru a jump point but there was 5 of them so I think it went over the limit.

Yea in the jump drive design there should be something like max escort or fleet size, thing its usually two or 3, and I think the ship it can escort can't exceed the tonnage of the jumpship itself, so its best to make jumpship to the max tonnage of the jump drive to take full advantage of it.

Actually, the size of the jump ship doesn't matter - you could make a tiny one capable of ferrying supertankers if you wanted, so long as the jump drive can accommodate those large ships.

Wow, looks like I'm getting my wish. 7 strength 13 explosions toasted one of my geosurvey ships in the big huge 3 star tons of planets system.  The missiles weren't going very fast (only 8000km/s) but that was a pretty big warhead.  I'll send in a few warships to take a look.  I might actually have a real fight! Woo!

I am going to have soooo much 'fun'.  EDIT: Survivors.  My Grav survey ship in the system is gunna try to make a quick dash and grab and get the hell outta dodge.  Good thing my Grav survey ships have their own jump drives.

Commercial jump drive don't worry about maintenance if all other parts are commercial and they seem to have a higher capacity. But they are also much bigger...like 8 times bigger.  I think they may cost more too, but I'm not sure about that part.

So much for the rescue mission.  The gravsurvey ship picked up contacts for exactly 10 seconds.  From what I was seeing it was the ships that fired the missiles themselves. 2 ships both packing active sensors and traveling at 7999km/sec. Then after another 5 seconds another 7 size 13 explosions tore the gravsurvey ship a new one.  Sounds like precursors. I'm staying away now.

If anti-missile missiles don't need warhead strength (at least against unarmored missiles), I came up with another use for multistage missiles. Pack a metric shitton of absurdly small (think .01 missile size) into a size one missile. A single shot from a size one missile launcher could spew close to a hundred tiny missiles, each of which is going more than 20,000 Km/s for up to 18M Km (assuming you had the missile control to reach that far). Meaning that there's a negligible chance of the oncoming missile surviving. So, a 50 ton anti-missile weapon that never misses, has a range of more than 18M Km, and uses ammo that only weighs in at 2.5 tons a piece.

Anyone figured out what drones do yet? Or shall I just instant a few and be the one to try them out, since I'm already fucking around in SM mode to try to learn missiles? I'll do a serious game when I have bloody clue what I'm doing.

I think they need at least a lvl 1 head to deal any damage. And if you're unlucky you'll soon run into armoured missiles.

Something I want to test is packing a fighter full of engines and a few microwaves, and then rush them towards their target, like manned missiles. If even only a few survive, they had better hope their systems are EMP-protected, or they'll be flying blind through a hail of missiles. Of course they'd best be launched from a mothership with powerfull anti-missile protection that carries them up to the other ships max beam weapon range.

Also, the 4-shot modifier on railguns seems like it'd make some very good anti-missile systems. Anyone tested them yet?

Forgot to say, I can't colonize mars this time :(
Gravity..

Take a look at Titan, a moon of Saturn. It's cost will probably be around 5-7, so pack plenty of infrastructure. It's a lot colder then Mars, but has a higher gravity and with an atmosphere of 1.74 atm (95% nitrogen, 5% methane), it could be easier to terraform. You just need to strip the methane, add oxygen and then fill up with greenhouse gass (In no particular order). No need to pump a metric carpton of nitrogen into the atmosphere. If you want to be fast, you could even forgo stripping the methane, which will limit it's cost to 2 because of a toxic gas. I can't say for sure if upping the greeenhouse factor to 3 actualy makes the temperature high enough to be of use though.

Oh my, has anyone else managed to delete a fleet of ships with the 'Divide Fleet into Single Ships' order? It seemed like a handy way to order surveyers into a system as a single taskforce and automatically detach from eachother but I'm probably using it wrong.

I have no idea. Maybe its a military vessel with civilian jumpdrives?

Try posting it on the aurora website.
