What mode does my Gauss PD fire control to be in so that it'll shoot down everything that comes close? Area defense or Final Defensive Fire?

Thank you.

Almost lost my entire fleet trying to rescue the crew of one recon frigate. (0.o)

I only rescue them when I win the battle.

Question, does cyrogenic transport hold rescued crew?
If so, a small fighter sized lifeboat could hold the entire crew from a 40,000 ton ship.
One could pop a hanger inside each ship if desired.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Yes, it's the purpose of the small cryogenic modules.

After taking a few days off from my game, I have designed a new spy ship that should be capable of out running anything they may have, and should be able to gather good intel on the enemy vessels:

Code: [Select]
Plainsman II class Recon Frigate    12,000 tons     266 Crew     3679.5 BP      TCS 240  TH 1050  EM 0
12500 km/s    JR 3-50     Armour 3-46     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 3     PPV 0
Maint Life 0.24 Years     MSP 575    AFR 384%    IFR 5.3%    1YR 2383    5YR 35751    Max Repair 875 MSP
Intended Deployment Time: 4 months    Spare Berths 1

J12000(3-50) Military Jump Drive - Blackbird     Max Ship Size 12000 tons    Distance 50k km     Squadron Size 3
1000 EP Internal Fusion Drive - Blackbird (3)    Power 1000    Fuel Use 25%    Signature 350    Exp 10%
Fuel Capacity 1,000,000 Litres    Range 60.0 billion km   (55 days at full power)

Active Search Sensor MR308-R100 - Spy Sensor (1)     GPS 28000     Range 308.0m km    Resolution 100
Active Search Sensor MR123-R16 - Spy Sensor (1)     GPS 4480     Range 123.2m km    Resolution 16
Active Search Sensor MR9-R1 - Short Range (1)     GPS 84     Range 9.2m km    Resolution 1

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes

I'm rather proud of getting a ship to be that fast yet not break the bank on fuel. Very expensive to build though..

Holy shit. My Gauss PD system ACTUALLY WORKS.  :o

Personally, I'd drop the jump drive and pair it up with a jump-capable ship larger or the same size as itself to get it into systems to be scouted. Of course, you'd need another ship in the operation, but you can always grab one from your main fleet of warships. Doing so would, in my opinion, save lots of cash and minerals in construction, plus faster build times.

But that's just me.

Me too. I tend to go for Jump Tender ships that act as mobile jumpgates(they tend to be unarmed, but HUEG jumpdrives and long crew requirements), and only build jumpgates between systems I have secured and are palnning to colonize(since freighter-sized jump ships tend to be pretty damn expensive, especially since I go for massive, 100k+ freighters and colony ships)

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Is Aurora 2 a thing yet? He was working on it last time I checked like 1.5 years ago.

Hmm. Personally I'd put more maint life on, but then again you might not be doing year-long operations... Still, a recon frigate is something I'd put in a system and leave there for a long time, preferably until I've built up accordingly to what I've seen in that system.
The speed is amazing, though.

It's not meant to be a long term deployment craft, because I don't see how it will go undected with those massive engines and those sensors. Just to kite their pursuit craft while I get some tactical data on their ships.

Actually the jump engine is cheap compared to the 3 massive sublight engines (2/3rds the whole ship build cost)

What ground unit do I need to excavate ruins?
How will I know when xenology teams are making progress?

Once your xenology team have discovered all the installations, you'll need engineer brigade to excavate them.
