Quite a bit. The big three over older versions that come to my mind are:
1 - Deployment time. There's now a value you can set for military ships (Civilian ships ignore it) - if you start going over the deployment time, the performance of the ship starts degrading.
2 - Engine creation. Unlike before, you now have full control over the size of the engines you put on your ships. The larger the engnies, the more fuel efficient they are over smaller ones, but you also have less redundency in combat if have two engines and one is knocked out over having five, for example.
3 - Fuel efficiency - All engines tend to use a lot more fuel, so setting up a strong fuel-generating economy is important.

Not yet with the AI. Steve is testing something like this in 6.4, but it isn't out yet.

Eeh. Terraforming is super-low priority; it's not buggy, it's fairly simple and more or less balanced, and it's pathetically simple to cheat with SM mode if you don't have any patience. There are so many other things that need to be cleaned up, streamlined, and rebalanced. :x

Speaking of terraforming, what would I need to terraform Luna into a class-0 world? Same atmosphere as Earth's?

0.1 atm of Oxygen and 0.2 atm of some inert gas should do the trick.

You'd want some Carbon Dioxide too, it's too cold without it or other safe greenhouse gas.

My previous game the Moon had both a Human and a heavily genetically modified race of Humans called the Moonmen. The Human colony had genetic modification centers. Both colonies were at 0 colony cost.

What Sheb said. Get your 0.1atm of oxygen, then bring the temperature up to human norms without going over the pressure limit or adding anything toxic. CO2, and maybe some nitrogen if you want to RP it a little.

Actually, I think you need 0.1 atm of oxygen and no more than 33% oxygen content. That's why I wanted him to add nitrogen or something. I like to use helium instead and pretend everyone talks with a funny voice.

Pretty sure it's 0.1-0.3atm and no more than 30%.

I tend to use nitrogen as filler because it doesn't really affect temperature to a significant degree.

I think all gases affect temperatures the same way, except for CO2, safe greenhouse gas and safe anti-greenhouse gas.

Made contact with precursor ships, sent some military ships in, and they refuse to turn on their active sensors.

They ALL have active sensors, but the game doesn't give me the option of activating them. It just has, under the 'active sensors' thing in the combat screen, 'inactive'. Nothing to activate them or anything. When I DID try activating them earlier,t he game threw up some error.

Also, I can see some units about... 1500K-ish kilometers away from my military ships, and they don't show up on the combat screen, despite being visible. Got beam fire control and plasma carronades. Plasma carronades are assigned to the beam fire control, but there's nothing in the 'assign contact as target' screen.

Do they need to be in range before you can assign them?

Activate your active sensors in the fleet order screen.  I tend to just activate them as soon as they're created and forget.

Are the enemy ships within fire control range (dunno if it has to be weapon range)?  I don't know combat, but that may be it.

I told them to activate the sensors whilst in Sol, but as I said, it threw up an error.

What is the error?

.....dumb question time. Did you actually make sure you had sensors installed on your ships? Recheck your design and make sure....

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Yep. Made sure.

Had EM, Thermal AND active sensors on the ships. Being new to the whole actually killing things part of Aurora, I made sure everything was there.

And forgot to put on shields.

Alright, better put in a bug report to steve then

"There was an error but I don't remember what is was" is a terrible bug report.

If my old forum game based on Terraforming in Aurora is to be believed (not even kidding), Methane, Nitrogen dioxide, and Sulfur dioxide are also greenhouse gasses. It might be out of date, though I don't recall any terraforming gas changes throughout the patchnotes.
