I'm fairly certain the answer is yes if the Queen has wreck to infect, but I'm not sure otherwise. Maybe it has enough ressources to build new workers though.
Good question, not sure how the game abstracts that. I used DM to inspect the Queen, and I didn't see any resources onboard, but....

the only wrecks in the system are a couple of 375-ton fighters that ran afoul of her meson turrets. Hopefully not enough to help that much (because it'll be a year or two before I'll be back, thanks to a crappy ordnance production system).

I seem to recall reading that if a Queen has no wrecks to turn into workers, she can spawn wrecks.

I'd love to see a Swarm Queen get a hold of that. They could probably kill Invaders.
Speaking of that, anyone know how to spawn a Swarm Queen and transfer it to the Swarm?

Euchrejack, they spawn "wreck" using ressources workers collect from asteroids.

More specifically, the "wrecks" are eggs.

I wonder if that asteroid is even big enough to hold all that inside it.
IIRC TN minerals are measured in kilograms.(Or are they?)

Or if they're measured in tons, all these minerals would be enough to make a ~200m radius asteroid by themselves assuming normal asteroid density, which might not be the case.

And that is a sweetspot!

I wonder what such "wrecks" will look like.

Probably not safe for lunch.

Ceres is 950 km in diameter, so it's not actually that impressive. You can RP it as an asteroid that formed from a planetary core after a collision with another planetoid (kinda like the Moon).

Or we can RP it as Ceres.

But Ceres already exists as a dwarf planet in the game :P

Okay, I have a couple questions now that I'm trying to learn this game in earnest.

How important are governors, admirals, and other named characters? Do I need them or do they just give bonuses?
What materials do I need for shipbuilding, or is it different from ship to ship/game to game?
How do I build more research labs?

This game is one of the buggiest games I've ever seen on Earth, you can't even play on a laptop because the windows are bigger than the screen.

I've seen much worse. At least this game is perfectly playable - if installed right, that is.

And, use reduced height windows.

1. Named people need to be assigned to a post to have their bonused take effect on their respective post, e.g. assigning a governor with mining 10% to a planet will increse the planet's mining output by 10% and so on.
2. Usually all designs will need at least some amount of all of the TN materials, which you can check on your economy screen and class design screen.
3. Build them on the industry tab of the economy screen of the planet.

You don't absolutely need officers, other than scientists for research, but their principal use is for their bonuses.

Duranium is the base material you will need for building ships with Neutronium being needed for the armour. Other materials are dependant on what components you place in your ship designs. You can see exactly what materials you will need on the right of the component summary tab on the class design window.

Build more research labs from the industry tab of the colony managment window. Click on Research Lab in the list then click create.

This game is one of the buggiest games I've ever seen on Earth, you can't even play on a laptop because the windows are bigger than the screen.

That is not a bug, simply the way it was designed. Steve originally wrote Aurora entirely for his own use and he was using a multi monitor setup with very large screens. Aurora was released "as is", and over the years there have been quite a few efforts made to make things better for those on lower resolutions(and see flying dices signature for more details on how to deal with running on a laptop) but most laptops remain at far to small a resolution to be supported without a great deal of rewriting of code that provides no real benefit to Steve. Aurora remains very much Steves sandbox that he allows others to play in.

I've been shocked at how buggy it's not.  This is an amazingly deep game and I have had no crashes or issues in about 2 months of playing.

One time the game was processing a turn for about a half hour and I foolishly force-quit, but it turned out it hadn't frozen up. In fact the game had retained all of the progress it had churned out up to the point of my force-quit!!
