It seems I did it right then.  Unfortunatly I forgot to give my fleet an overhaul, and they ran out of mantinence suuplies and slowly exploded as they limped back to Earth.
And can you put the missile control radar on another ship, or does it have to be on the ship firing the missiles?  Same with beam control.

The fire controls (both beam and missile) need to be on the same ship as the weapons.
The actual active sensor can be on another ship.

How do you get ships to load ordance?  I selected for them to load ordnance at Earth, where I have a minimum of 800 of each of my three types of missiles, but both my colliers, fighters, and missile ships all have 0 in ordnance management.

Did you select what missiles they get under Ordance/Fighters in the F5 tab? I'm sure that a way exists to take missiles individually from a colony, but setting the defaults under F5 is much simpler if you're going for standardization.

What are these things that are marked "LP1" or "LP2" in the same color text as a Jump point??  Keep finding them in new systems and can't determine what they are.

I believe they're called Langarge points? Something like that? Long story short, they're basically in-system jump-points (if I'm remembering correctly).

Lagrange points. And yes, they function like JPs, except for intrasystem jumps.

So I managed to install the game and ran through the tutorials. I was doing fine up until tutorial 9 on terraforming where I had to press F9 for a system view.

I got an error saying

Code: [Select]
Error 53 was generated by aurora
File not found 'Planetjpeg\a11.jpg'

It came up twice, followed by a runtime error telling me about the previous error (handy) at which point the game crashes.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Also, the install turned my firefox menu bar yellow.

A couple of the planet images are referenced by the game but don't actually exist. Go into the folder with the planet images and make copies of a few, naming them for each of the ones referenced in the errors.

The whole firefox thing happens to me occasionally (apparently at random) and always ends up self-correcting.

I'm also 99% certain that they came with the latest patch as well.

6.10?

I think I've already patched to it.

Huh. Did you check the folder that the patch came in for the planet images? They should be in there.

Oh, just found it. Thanks.

EDIT: Just finished all the tutorials. Only took about four hours. :D

Time to get to work on figuring out what to do now.

I was wondering what caused that.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.
