Planets are quite a bit bigger than that. Like the moon is ~8x1019 tons iirc

So... ECM and ECCM? Are they worth it? Because ECM seems really awesome at high levels. Maybe even at low.

Yeah, they're worth it.

On another note, MW seems like a waste of research, but I'd go for it in multiplayer games just for the sheer dickery factor.

ECM reduces the enemy sensor range.  If they have a 100k km fire control, then ECM might reduce that to 50k km or whatever.  It reduces a lot of their range advantage.  1 strength ECCM counters 1 strength ECM.

Microwave, though it doesn't seem like it gets used enough for there to be a need for any sort of collectively agreed-upon shortening.

Oh, what's the dickery factor with microwaves?

They won't actually kill your ship, they'll just blind your sensors and fire controls so that you flail about helplessly while being pounded into scrap.

They strike at sensors, fire control, and I think ECM/ECCM.  They do 1 damage per hit, but ignore armor and do 3 damage to shields.  Good for ripping through shields and then crippling a ship for your marines to take over, but in a large fight you need to disable ALL the ships via microwave, or else it's not worth it.  It's a fair way to cripple a heavy ship too, if you don't have the firepower for a brawl you can fight dirty.
