Ugh... I'm really wishing I didn't have to go on this stupid inter-state trip today.
Why do I agree to this sort of thing? I should realise what a giant pain in the arse it's going to be. And this is especially bad given the lack of organization- I have only the vaguest of plans of what I'm doing and where I'm going, and I don't really have any places to stay (apart from one friend who lives quite far away from everything and so who knows if I'll actually end up visiting him) for the first half of the journey.
Hell, I don't even know how long I'm going for. It's ridiculous.

Now I'm going to have to pack my laptop away, cram it into this big, unwieldy suitcase full of crap I don't really need and lug it either to my friend's car or the nearest train station, depending on whether he decides to give me a lift or not. Really I should probably just take my backpack with some clothes, books and my MP3 player, but it feels as though I should have more stuff.
This sucks, I want to go back to bed and forget anyone ever came up with this idea.

Because it's just... not normal?
So?

I mean people tell me that normal is a dumb concept and I shouldn't think too much about this.
Normality is not dumb; the norm has statistical significance (and anyone who says otherwise is balmy). But not being normal doesn't mean you should be ashamed of it.

I guess I'm being irrational.
Aren't we all.

But it's really depressing how everyone else around me like people with the opposite gender and would be unable to even comprehend the idea of finding attraction in someone of your own gender.
Oh, that's easy. Different people have different preferences. This is like sociology 101. Why do think porn is divided into a billion different categories? Because not everyone wants to watch transsexual amputee midgets. To the point where it's actually really hard to find transsexual amputee midgets, and I think I'm digressing.
Obviously if people lambaste you for your preferences then they're dorks, though.

Anyway, yeah. Don't be ashamed of yourself, that's really dumb. Being selective with the people you share it with goes without saying.

Cinder, you really shouldn't be ashamed of being yourself.  It's not abnormal.  It's not.  It's just that it's not a majority.
"Not a majority" is literally the definition of abnormal though. Admittedly the connotation is bad, but from a strictly prescriptive viewpoint being gay is not normal. However, observing the ratio of gay:straight people is basically really dumb if you want to say it's bad. It's also dumb to be concerned about being normal or whatever, because all it really achieves is to make people anxious.

...

Also, I just made a rant supporting something I'm supposed to be morally opposed to. I'm consistent, I swear.

I'm kind of ashamed that I'm gay again...
Why.

* Tiruin applies a shotgun to that idea.

You've a whole field of science backing you up with clear evidence to say otherwise that it. is. normal. :P

And no, you ain't being irrational. You're concerned with what others say :) Thing is, as far as I can assume that background of yours (High School?), people may not be that worldly in knowledge and context, so they may be unsure as to their degree and level of consideration. Best to balance your own consideration (since that's what you can control) with wisdom and knowledge--then help those dudes around you! :D

You dudes are awesome people.

Also I just got PPE'd 3x.

Because it's just... not normal?
So?
It IS normal and gah to the idea that people think it's not normal because of lacking worldly awareness.
Pff that subjective normality.

I know how that feels Cinder...  I still feel like it's wrong, a bit.  It's just the way I am though, and that's that.

And rationally there's nothing wrong with it, of course.  Which is some consolation, or justification to just ignore the wrong feeling.  Which is almost certainly just the result of society painting it as wrong (or often, a sideshow performance).

Also sorry, I wasn't actually awake when you said hey on Steam.  Apparently I showed up as online though, according to someone else...  I just got home in fact.

@_@?
OW, please don't mistake a sample parameter of a population and put it under the semblance that 'this is literally [with literally as an intensifier rather than a statistical marker] {x}'.
The baseline never existed in heteronormativity, and it is saddening to see the trend continue because people haven't put themselves to thoroughly look at what research has brought. <_>

Just dropping a baseline here--thinking you are abnormal is not the right path of reasoning to follow. 'Not a majority' is NOT THE DEFINITION OF ABNORMAL. (Return to statistical theory and exercise awareness on your terms; not being in the 'majority' needs an implication or meaning attributed to it to actually mean anything, and the equivalence of normalcy or abnormality is not correlated to the size of the population exhibiting a certain characteristic. This is context-bound.)

It'd be nice if misleading information wasn't blooming because 'the seeming majority' said so. >_<

My ex just told me, without saying the exact words but everything that means it, that she's given up on life... She doesn't want to accept things will get better, she accepts that she's going to die young, she accepts she's going to feel pain until she dies, and she accepts that she won't do anything with her life because of her problems.

It's like watching someone taking their last moments in life before they die, begging for that final rest, except they still have years on their life left to live.

And there isn't a damn thing I can do. I can't make her laugh, I can't encourage her to do things, I can't even hug her and tell her that things will be alright. I fucking hate it.

This is the same thing that happened with that girl I fell head over heels for, except I know for a fact that my ex isn't lying about this (unlike that girl, who I don't know what to believe anymore with her...). I fucking want to do something, but all she wants me to do is sit around her, near her, don't talk to her, don't do anything and don't leave without her knowing... I'm getting fucked up thoughts in my head, thinking shes doing it because she doesn't want to die alone, or that she doesn't know any better and doesn't want to put the effort to do anything else. She never goes outside her room, she barely does anything but watch TV over and over, and the only times she leaves her room, she goes to work or school, and goes right back home...

I'm scared for her and I can't do a fucking thing but watch her be in pain and suffer...

'Not a majority' is NOT THE DEFINITION OF ABNORMAL.
Quote
abnormal
/əbˈnɔːm(ə)l/
adjective
deviating from what is normal or usual, typically in a way that is undesirable or worrying.
The second part of the definition is what you're taking issue with - and I agree, it's not the best word to use - but ignoring the fact that "deviating from what is normal" somehow isn't the same as "not being in the majority" is wilful ignorance.

I can't really parse this, but I think you're saying "it is unhelpful to think about your traits in terms of normal or abnormal", to which I agree. Unfortunately, facts don't always align with feelings, and I get really annoyed when people try to distort facts to placate their feelings.
Being gay is statistically less common than being straight. Doesn't make it good, doesn't make it bad. Makes it less common.

I wish I could help you more but...Mostly, my only suggestion is, get her a gift or something.  Anonymously if need be.  Might snap her out of it.  Possibly, chocolate.  I seriously...I don't know.

While you may not think you're able to do these things--what you can do is direct her to help; if one has given up their personal will to live, support them by sending and seeking aid from others. Don't hate yourself if things you can do seem to have no effect--moods and reasoning and association all make it seem complex to work with.

Please aid her by seeking aid. :-\ I don't know the context and I believe it is better if you used your context with her in the setting over there to get help, contact any person able to aid her that she has access to (ie School services if she's enrolled in one, or the local clinics, etc...)

Don't hurt yourself because of this.

We're talking about a statistical context :P While I do use that kind of definitions[?] (ie Search up the word online) in finding the meaning of certain words, a very important part to note is the context in which that word is used ^ ^

It does not apply in this manner of reasoning. 'Deviating' is VERY different from 'not being in the majority' given how many meanings 'deviating' can be--especially if it's in a context of in-group/out-group discussions.

I can't really parse this, but I think you're saying "it is unhelpful to think about your traits in terms of normal or abnormal", to which I agree. Unfortunately, facts don't always align with feelings, and I get really annoyed when people try to distort facts to placate their feelings.

You parsed it very well :D
And sure--statistically 'less common', but the interpretation of these facts follow with just as much importance as the words one gives their conclusions. :)

So...yeah. We're both on the same parallel of reasoning her. Just with different words. o_o
