Working by the light of a single candle might sound romantic.
WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING

>implying

I'm currently working by the light of a single candle. This is not at all romantic. It is back-ache inducing, eye-straining, a little smelly, and slightly dangerous.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/heres-budget-family-feels-theyve-160000283.html

$142,000 a year.... You know, I'm not sure what's more out of touch, this or the one McDonalds says their workers are supposed to live on.

It's just insane and blatantly ignores a sizable chunk of the population. I don't even want to get into it in terms of numbers, but it's the perception that's offensive. The idea that this should somehow be the model for college grads ignores real world things like McDonalds ignores things like gas for the employee's car, a second job assumed and $20/month health care. That just doesn't work.

I get the idea of setting an actual and an ideal budget, but this is just .... Forget it.

I dunno... I've never had a steady job, and $2000/month sounds like a fucking fortune to me...

Eh? Do they say anywhere that it's a model people should be expected to follow? Seems like a fluff piece to me. Definitely quite a lot of money, though. Good for them.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

There's something odd about that budget graph: Why are the ideal sums higher in mortgage and weekly budgets?

I don't think it's an unreasonable assumption for them to assume that McDonalds have other jobs. Since when is working at McDonalds a career (or intended as one)?

I'm generally against corporations on most any issue you can name, but it isn't McDonalds' fault that no one else is hiring at the moment, and it's not really reasonable for them to restructure their entire payment structure because of mostakes that the banks made.

I do too. Don't worry, though. Your nose will run out of snot. On the downside, it will replace that snot with blood.

Seriously, this asshole makes 142k a year and he still hasn't completely paid off his college debt?  What kind of mindless jackass is he.

No, it means:
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/brush-sth-off
" to refuse to listen to what someone says, or to refuse to think about something seriously"
So, was Tack saying: 'I just don't like the idea of a doctor who listens to what I say and treats me seriously. It's unnatural'?
Yes it was.
It wasn't a psychiatrist by the way, it was a GP.

It's less that I dislike doctors, it's just that I'm a hypochondriac and need someone who Won't treat me seriously.

As for my sad, Agents of Shield is back on Hulu, but I missed an unknown bunch of episodes that they, being Hulu, decided they don't need anymore. Fuck.
