Maybe she's trying to help you learn from the past?

Thanks Grandma.

That's....pretty sound advice.

So that's what I was doing wrong.

Sorry, Martha.

On the maths/language discussion, IMO it boils down to the fact that maths is absolute - unless you mess up the core logic it always holds true. Language is full of messy ambiguities.

No.

Einstein, huzzah!

But no, I think the point of it is that it brings together all the sides of maths into one, and still works? Of course, I don't know, but I'm sure Vector or someone equally good at maths could explain it better than I could.

Aw crap.

It might sound terrible, but I managed to forget about this. It's not like I don't care - I do. This is a horrible way to die. It's just not on my mind that much because frankly, I can do absolutely nothing to help.

But articles like this one are here just to remind me I should feel bad and sad. And I do.

Dammit, this just sucks.  :'(

All the parts? Naah. But it brings together conceps that evolved in different context (imaginary numbers, the exponential function, pi) together in such a simple and elegant way... It shows that the various fields/areas of mathematics are interrelated on a very fundamental level; it shows that mathematics is indeed a thing of its own, rather than the written-down form of some natural phenomena.

Its Euler's identity, which I posted about around here somewhere earlier today regarding the ability of maths to express beauty. It elegantly links 5 core principles and 3 basic operators of maths in a remarkably simple way.

Anyone who doubts the beauty of math as a language isn't looking at it correctly.

So that's a lesson worth learning from.

That's not math. That's an abstract visual representation of particular patterns emergent in our particular mathematical system.

Everything is abstract representation. The English language is nothing more than abstracted ideas put into somewhat agreed upon forms for communicative use. You think that the language we're using wasn't made up at some point?
