That feel when it seems like you've been tossing and turning the night away...only to discover that less than two hours have passed and you still don't feel able to sleep :(

I struggle with this a lot. I'm usually tired enough from not being able to sleep that I fall asleep relatively quickly, but then toss and turn for the entire night. What I'd suggest if it's bad enough is that you just get up and spend an hour or so reading. That usually calms me down, and makes me feel like the time was, at the very least, well spent.

Then you've slept less, so you're tired earlier... I'd suggest going to bed as soon as you feel like you might fall asleep. If it doesn't work, read again.

I've used this recently to get back onto decent sleeping schedules that don't leave me crippled from sleepiness, despite being pretty stressed out.

The problem was that my bunk was hard and I chose poorly when it came to blankets.

As I predicted, I can't get to sleep. :(
I generally take a long time to fall asleep at the best of times.

Ick, late night thought for me always turns into "Remember all the stupid things and regret everything ever!" for me. Not fun.
Yeah that really bites.
Just laying there, thinking about stuff then "HEY, remember that humiliating thing that happened at new years 2009?" Then the rest comes flooding back.

Anyway on to the thing that made me somewhat sad:

I'm walking home from school, its raining lightly and the wind is mild, a pleasant day. The walk home is roughly 30-50 minutes depending on who I'm with, today I am alone.
As the end draws nearer I start to get tired, some sweat, slightly deeper breaths as I realize I'm out of it. A little fed up I suppose.
I'm walking down a hill with home just round the corner, I stare at a far back tree that I like to stare at.

I look back on the path and there is some kid and a woman, I presume his mother, at the bottom of the hill.
As I get nearer the kid says something, the presumed Mom says "Hes probaly a bad man" and moves her son to the inner part of the pavement away from me.

What did I do?  ???:(

Also my laptops screen cracked a few days ago (heavy cats wants love + gravity), and now there is ink like stuff on inside (LCD fluid or something). Fortunately my Dad is always fixing peoples computers at work and home so it can be fixed, still hurts seeing it like this.

In your best midwestern accent, "Hardly, ma'am. Just headin' home."

Plant that seed of doubt in the child's mind, that his mother is imperfect, that she doesn't know everything, that he should think for himself.

Nah. Embrace your apparent badness. Stare creepily at people. Grow your hair out, wear tattered clothing, large boots and spikes.
...And then be an incredibly kind, polite, friendly person when someone actually talks to you, just to confuse the hell out of 'em.

Good advice, or at least funny advice, will keep in mind should it happen again.

Just got a hair cut 4-5 days back though. Thanks all. :)

You forgot to mention the need for an exaggerated evil laugh.
That went without saying.

I always feel nervous around police/security guards. Especially ones with guns.
This is not a good trait at all.

Same with me. I always look them over to see if they have a gun - basically, are they shitcurity or a real cop? Always nice to know where the guns in the room are.

Personally, it always makes me feel a bit safer. Knowing that, if someone suddenly starts shooting poeple, there will be someone who will fire back that actually knows how to use the gun not just someone who happens to own one always reassures me.

My middle school was not that great, and there had been violence (not gun violence though) in other schools so I was worried that there might be violence in my school. Never happened, but the security gaurds and metal detectors at the doors did help me feel safer going to class. I was also friends with all the gaurds so I hoped that if someone started shooting/stabbing/attacking, I'd be the first person the gaurds would help escape.

... yeah, I'm definitely in the more-nervous-around-cops-than-anything crowd. Criminal's probably only after my money, maybe break a leg or something. Cop goes bad, I'm probably either dead or framed for something, and either way my life is effectively over -- and even better, at least the criminal would probably end up in jail for it. Cop's probably going to go free for putting me in the grave, jail, or hospital. Maybe even get a raise or promotion, a bit down the line.

M'also in the states, though, and have had family in politics. Seen too much bad news and know of too much back-room stuff to be particularly comfortable around law enforcement. Bit too much institutional corruption, at this point.

Somebody's gonna counter with personal experience working with straight cops, but before that happens I just wanted to chime in that two of my professors who worked as policemen before teaching said that in their experience, police were divided roughly evenly into thirds: some were in it to do good and make the world better, others were in it for the power and to be jackholes to others, and a third were just in it for the paycheck. Both professors said various departments they worked in were better or worse. And I got these two opinions a handful of years apart at two different colleges. Finally, a guy I gamed with was a policeman in Cali and his opinion was that most were corrupt bastards. But he was kind of a jerk so I dunno.
