I... don't know, really. I hope so, but... I don't know if he broke it off because of me or him.
Don't go thinking that you're not a good person, or that something is wrong with you... it's likely that he sought a break from a sense of mutual incompatibility or something. Approach him, and see if you can talk about it. Ask him to be as open and direct as he can, so you can understand how he feels, and why. Knowing will bring closure, and help you plan the way forward from here.

God Soli, I really wish that didn't happen. I don't even know what to say, honestly. :(
This reminds me of just how poorly-off my area is, and is yet another prod suggesting I leave. Speaking of which, is anyone outside the US looking for a roommate? I cook well, generally keep to myself, and have rather good taste in movies!

Still going to be able to get to work, yes.  However, 4 hours of every day will be commute, and I'll have to get up at 5 AM.

Sorry to hear that, Soli...  I hope you can get better employment soon.
Er... 2 hours of one-way commute is approaching the Untenable Zone. That's $40-60 in gas every day, assuming gas prices around $4.50, average fuel economy (22 miles per gallon), and about 200 miles of driving (~4 hours drive, at ~55mph).

Unless, of course, this involves taking a convoluted Bus Route, in which case it's still pretty damned inconvenient.

Have you tried CraigsList, looking for folks who need a roommate ASAP, need someone to take over their apartment for a few months, or even who are offering a couch to crash on during the work week? I've met pretty decent folks via Craigslist before, so long as you try to get to know them before you commit.

Also, I'm still trying at the lab. There's a post-deployment stress study at the university that I'm trying to get on right now. And most of my free time is working on art jobs and such. I just wish the bakery job had made things a bit more comfortable.

He said he doesn't feel ready. Or something. Said he doesn't really understand it himself.

Said it doesn't help that we mostly... uh... Well, it's me, what do you expect. That's mostly my fault, even I was thinking "Okay, we can't just build a relationship based off that."

Yeah, this is bus & train.  Price = waaaaaay cheaper.

They say they'll put me up for a week, during which time I'm hoping I'll come off so ludicrously charming that they'll say "Oh, how could we have ever treated you so cruelly?!"  I should also add that the commute time will still be 2 hours per day, and that I don't want to live too close near where I'm working because It Is Oakland.

So... yeah.  I really don't mind doing this for a month.  It will also cut down on expenses by at least $500, which is important to me because I'm trying to save for more Berkeley courses and $500 goes a really long way.

So I was on TV Tropes.

I decided to check out Adventure Time's nightmare fuel and tearjerker pages. I have only seen the first season.

Hang on a second, everybody get in the front seats of the class.... I don't like to stress my voice, though I often do....

[sits down, crosses legs, smooths skirt, sets down purse under chair]

So, just let me tell you about this day I'm having. It starts, per usual with a heroin addict.... I'm happy to see she's actually come to court like she's supposed to, and not happy to see she's completely high off her ass in those lovely courtroom audience seats right there in public and in court..... She's obviously got something wrong with her, moreso than usual I mean, sprawled all over the place and slouched if you can call it that, legs not exactly together.....

Me: "Hello Miss. [Name] it's a pleasure to see you again, you're looking ... are you not well today?"
Her: "[halfhearted moaning] "fffh....Fuck you."
Me: "Well, I'm flattered, but no thank you. I'm sorry but you're just not my type. Also you uh, [ahem] you might wanna maybe ... make sure your legs are slightly closer together than they are ... right about now.... A lot closer together um, perhaps.... "
Her: [Middle finger, still very very slouched]
Me: "Well, I'm sorry that I'm already taken, you should've come to the dance sooner.... Let's see if we can do something to try and manage t...."
Her: [raises middle finger higher still very very slouched]
Me: "Yes, that's rather nice, might wanna put that away, nice things like that, they tend to get stolen in this town. Safe and tucked away.... Don't go anywhere.... Excellent job on that last one...."

So before I can even consider exactly what the hell I can do in this situation she starts freaking the hell out, screaming and flailing at people (one or more of whom may have thrown terms like 'skank' and 'slut' within her earshot), all on the courtroom's camera system.... They did not get her good side.... I had this worked out so it wouldn't be a felony and would be a misdemeanor if she did rehab but basically you can forget alllll about that now. Additional. Charges. Pending.... Protip, don't throw up on the bailiffs when they're trying to cuff you--they really hate that.

From there, I have to clean up this horrid mess with the first court when it was supposed to be a "simple thing," so my whoooole schedule in other courts is shot straight to hell today....

I have several cases including a 10 year old charged with arson for the old "lighting a paper bag full of dog crap on fire and running away" thing, a few thefts, some probation violations, etc etc etc, late to alllll of them, because of her antics. Plus I'm sure this makes me look juuuust great. I get yelled at for being late in another court, because the judge simply doesn't wanna hear it and he couldn't care less if I was late on account of world war three (I believe he would conduct court if Armageddon were imminent while proclaiming what little time he had left was already scheduled on the docket and that it would be done by the docket before lunch sohelp the rest of us God).

Meanwhile one of the other appointed clients I have can't seem to pay her court costs (and I was late for her criminal matter for the reasons above), and she's crying in a court hallway in front of her landlord, who is expressly saying there is no way in Hell she will ever get her security deposit back and doesn't care if she deserves it or not.

I'm having a bad day, and I don't like listening to this guy violate landlord tenant law while extorting my appointed client, so it looks like I'm doing that now too. I'm not getting paid for over half of this at the already embarrassingly low rate I get....

And that was just the stuff before noon....

The guy I'm dating has canceled this weekend, just as he did last weekend and the one before that....

Maybe I'll start pissing off* violent felony clients in the hope one of them will just shoot me

*I already piss them off because I tell them the truth and they don't wanna hear it.

Never do heroin kids; it is a hell of a drug and that is not a good thing.

Wow....  Really? Appointed clients trying to call me at around and after 9 o clock at night on a Friday night, because I deserve absolutely NO time to myself....

Wow, what is so hard to get about this? It is a process designed so that you are going to hate it. My job is not to make you feel better. You will not be satisfied with it. I cannot hold your hand through every step of it, because I've got dozens of people all doing the same thing and if you're freaked out, that means you might be beginning to understand some of it. Whatever gave the impression that being a criminal defendant was pleasant?

I could care less that somebody is trying to use a false facebook profile to get information on you, privacy settings and not having a facebook profile.... Why are you calling a lawyer about this?

Your bitching is not helping you. It hurts you and wastes both our time. I can either focus on getting the job done or calling you back to listen to complaining because you want your hand held, not both, because time doesn't work like that. I spent 2 or 3 hours with you this week, and unless it is an emergency, I can't allot anymore time to your case this week, because that time has to come from somewhere. If I spend more time with you, then I spend less time with somebody else, and what little free time I have for myself (necessary for what passes for my sanity) is also reduced.

Ergh, I went upstairs safe in the knowledge that the lodger has finally left and I can stay up all night on the netbook. It turns out he didn't clean the bed, sheets, floor and anything else besides the counters. I don't feel clean...

Also to above: Jesus fucking Christ Truean, that sucks a whole lot more than what I do and I don't even get paid!
