C'mon, now. Michigan is the only place that looks like a mitten. Once you know what it looks like, it's hard as hell to miss, what with all the giant lakes and peculiar shape.

Ohio is pretty close.

If Ohio is America's heart, that certainly explains the obesity problem.

I would say Ohio is alright, but the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a farce. The only thing keeping you above water in my book is the NFL Hall of Fame.

And Florida is a gun. We get it.

Anyway.

And if you had a huge crane, you couldn't pick up Australia without breaking pieces off.
First off, we'd lose Tasmania. And we've got sand and stuff around, so it'd all fall off. So WA would just kinda disappear. Heh. Perth would probably open up to the foundations.
And we'd lose the Great Barrier Reef! Aaaahh don't pick us up Vector!

I was always so much of a literature/linguistics nerd that I basically didn't bother with geography or history.  I mean, I learned it, and somehow I got really good grades in it... but I didn't care about it.
That's almost the opposite of what I did. I get A's in English classes, and I read very well (according to my SAT, anyway), but I never got into the "What type of word is this! How did you not know that was a copula verb!? Ragh!" vibe that my teachers seemed to have.

The strait of Gibraltar is close enough to "attached" that I'm going to call it attached >_>

And then you can go through Israel and up around through Istanbul, to get to the main continent.  Or so it seems from the map I was looking at, anyway.
Doesn't the Suez canal mean it's technically not connected?  Although I guess you could say the same about the Americas and the Panama Canal...

Linguistics is about so much more than word classes, just like geography is about more than capitol cities.

They always leave the interesting parts out of general education. Probably because they think students won't "get it."

I mean, sure, word classes and sentence diagramming are the foundations of grammatical analysis, but you have to give the students a reason for why it's important to know this boring crap. It's not like anyone ever improved their English usage through diagramming.

Geography is a pretty wide subject.  I don't think I've ever learnt the capital of anywhere in it.

It's been weather, rivers, rocks, social stuff, aid, politics... I kindof liked it just for the variety.

Having one of those days where I just want to be left the hell alone, and the wife will not leave me alone for more than two consecutive minutes since she got home. Not exaggerating.

I just defended Twilight.

Oh God.

It's okay man.
The books are just another example of meh writing.
It's the miraculously large rabid fanbase and subsequent fanbase of those who hate the fanbase that are the issue.

Meanwhile, as I posted in the Happy Thread, I have no more problems to fix.
This has left me with an odd sense of emptiness.

The biggest problems with Twilight are the Fan Dumb and the Hate Dumb.
