Reading that made me go back and check out all those hawt roof prawns again, this made me happy!

This doesn't make sad so much as it pisses me off. I made this arena style fighting game on Squeegy's RP site, and so far all of the applications have been these munchkin god-mode characters, and it's really driving me up the wall. I wouldn't be surprised if the next person submits some kind of half-vampire abomination. I have half a mind to just lock the topic.

Unristricted RP + Fighting = major headaches. Get a system involved with clear character rules or don't bother.

They are not THAT bad. All of them have weaknesses, I think it can end up fairly intresting. Sure, the averge power level is high compared to most settings, but all of the ones I've seen so far could probably be beaten by a party of 10th level DnD characters.

A party of level 10 Min/Max DnD characters could probably take one of them on, favorable rolls permitting. The problem is that this is meant to be a free for all fight. Doesn't help that most of them also have modern day weaponry.

The thing is, balance is relative: If ALL characters are EQUALLY overpowered, then none are. Over/underpowerdness is measured as % of the median.

You need a standardized ruleset.

Let them go crazy, but make a system where points are assigned to powers, and no one can have more than such and such points.  Or you could go the 40k route and have points-matches.  One FFA with 100-point battles, which are more complicated than 50-point battles.

Speaking of 40k

Commander Dante and the 3rd Company battle the Necron Legions of the Silent King amidst the dusty wastes of Gehenna. For three weeks, neither side can seize the upper hand, with Dante’s tactical brilliance stretched to the limits countering the time-space manipulations of the Silent King. The Stalemate is broken only when a Tyranid splinter fleet enters orbit, forcing the two armies to break off hostilities to fight the common foe. The impromptu alliance proves to be the Tyranids’s undoing. Following the final battle at Devi’s Crag, Dante and the Silent King go their separate ways, both forces now too battle worn to guarantee victory over the other, and, at least for the Blood Angels, the idea of turning on those they so recently fought alongside, a rather distasteful one.

Tyranids are Aliens Aliens, mixed with the Zerg on drugs.

Necrons are terminators who come back from the dead like 3/4th of the time, and want to kill everything.

Even the germs.

The space marines don't make alliances with xenos.  They fought the Necron, who are soulless, tireless, unstoppable machines that will kill everything in sight (Everything, no mercy) and then vanish, leaving no trace, not even the bodies stay behind.

They teamed up to fight the tyranids.

Afterward, the Necrons were too tired to keep fighting (You know, the tireless machines), so they went their separate ways.
