Ah, finally, someone who criticizes it after actually seeing it, instead of the typical "I saw the middle of the 4th one for 10 minutes and got bored". Which isn't a good argument for anything, good or bad :P

I think they're sort of expected to survive the traps, but Jigsaw probably made them too tough at first. And there are some bits where others are expected to let them live, but don't. IIRC, there was actually a key for that last trap where he sawed of his own leg. And IIRC, he survived or was found or something, but I can't really tell because I keep confusing all the characters. The story is not the main point, though, I don't really care that it doesn't make sense.

But I still don't get why you guys aren't into it. Violence, elaborate traps, crippling injuries, that's the sort of thing I enjoy about DF. The overcomplicatedness of all the traps in the series makes it even more fun. I'd personally love a game that lets me try to do traps like that. I don't know anyone who watches it for the torture porn.

I went to the ride version at Thorpe Park.  It was pretty naff, but some of the traps were quite interesting.  The stupid gun trap was annoying though - having to queue under something that keeps making very loud "BANG!" noises isn't fun.

What the hell does this have to do with the topic?

He went to a SAW themed ride. What doesn't it have to do with the topic? We're discussing SAW.

Yeah, Saw the Ride.  It's got something to do with it, right?  Although it is a tangent, admittedly.

I wonder why they called it Saw? Was it just because the characters in the first movie had hacksaws? Because I don't think it makes sense in any of the other movies.

I sort of expected it to be that they were trying to get the moviegoers to think that the characters in the first movie sawing their feet off would be a pivotal part of the story. I think it refers to Jigsaw in the other movies.

Anyway, this thread got me watching the first movie again just to find out what people hate so much about it. I actually like it more this time. The first movie makes more sense than some of the later movies and knowing the whole plot makes it all the more interesting to try to point out what could go wrong.

We are getting quite impatient to see this movie in France, cause "saw six" prononce the same way as "sausage". And then the seventh will sound like "sock"...Oh the silly puns we will make.

I propose a truly dorfy solution: toady should implement a special helmet that (mostly) protects against fall damage, so that the toughest dwarves of the fortress can take the 10-z level jump down, pick and axe in hand, and construct stairs back up to the upper levels.

In French, Saw wouldn't sound like anything other than an English word. Saw 2 might sound, if mispronounced to an extreme point, as 'bucket of water' or even 'bucket of eggs' (but like I said, mispronounced VERY much, like you were speaking French with some weird foreign accent). Saw 3 wouldn't sound like anything, neither Saw 4, neither Saw 5.

I guess the 6th would sound like 'sausage' in French, but to get 'sock' for the 7th would also need some mispronouncement.
