Saw VI
« on: September 25, 2009, 02:25:29 am »

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1233227/

Oh for...    Really?  I mean, really really?   They can't possibly...  How in hell has this thing survived so long?

I only ever watched the first one, and I have to say it was one of the least enjoyable and/or fulfilling film experiences I ever had.  The fact that it got such massive acclaim and such high ratings was insult enough, not to mention the sequel...   And how the sequel also got high ratings...

And then the third one.  I can't possibly imagine how they managed to pull off that stunt.

I figured that, after the third one got high ratings, there was no chance for this thing ever redeeming itself by making a complete and total flop that would expose the stupidity for what it really was.

But...   Six?   SIX??!  That just can't be right.  Did I somehow miss something?  How can people watch this stuff?  Is there some compelling, intriguing storyline or hidden intellectual value that completely flew by me?  How can anyone garner entertainment value from this kind of mindless torturefest?

Please...   Someone tell me what's going on here.

You know that weird, creepy minority that likes gorn? Yes? It turns out they're not really a minority.

Why does horror have to dissolve into such slag? Horror now-a-days is just Jump Out Of The Closet and "Look! Intestines!"

I watched the... Third one I think, the one where it starts with the guy with hooks through his body, having to pull them out to survive? (He doesn't btw, in the 1st couple minutes he dies.)

Yeah, didn't like it. Turned it off after that guy got blown up.

I'm not real good with gore.

Gah, last time I checked it was only up to 3. Where do these keep coming from?

The first three were good, they each tell a part of what is actually a coherent story, and were work of the original creator. I'll admit that I liked them, the killer's motivation is warped, and it's actually sort of tragic in that he doesn't succeed in his ultimate goal at all, despite all his effort.

Everything 4 and beyond is a hodge-podge of executive moneygrubbing, and it took a definite decline in quality as a result.

Was it really any good before it got worse?

In hands of a skilled scriptwriter, the premise of Saw could make for one decent movie. They didn't have a skilled scriptwriter. Instead of exploring the psyche of the victims (different reactions to those situations could be interesting, I guess) they went with paper-mache characters and "LOOK, GUTS!!11!1!"

Saw is a waste of film, and all involved in it's making should be relegated to less creative occupations such as ditch digging or sewage cleaning. The people who thought that making 6 of these are beyond salvation, and should be purged before their taint spreads.

I actually enjoy all the SAW movies. I don't actually care much for the gore and the porn, it's more like something I force myself to watch through just to see the storyline. It's not mindless torturefest, it's got a nice plot and nice plot twists.

I don't really watch it with SAW haters, though, it's very annoying how people like to point out how bad it is. If you're watching a movie just to point out how bad a movie is, you'll miss out all the good parts.

BTW, I've only seen it up to 3. And even the third one started getting confusing, especially if you missed out on the first two.

It's hard to follow a plot when none of the protagonists can hold your interest. Is it so hard for a guy that writes for a living to write in some actual personality for the characters?

Seriously, I saw the movie like two or three years ago, and I can't remember one single character. I'm also having a hard time remembering more than two or three scenes. From good movies, I remember facial expressions of actors in specific scenes, even if I saw those movies a decade ago.

I remember Dina Meyer's character, but then again, I only like her because she always stars in terrible movies. (Anyone remember that movie about Bats? With Lou Diamond Philips?)
