-snip-
I reckon there's no point in continuing this - we're talking about different things, you about 'is', me about 'can be seen as'. Sorry about mixing up the percentages on that one point by the way - one shouldn't cite from memory, the 90% statistic is from 2001. The bit you added about Catholic officers being targeted actually plays into my whole thing about sectarianism and thus religious symbols being hugely relevant, I'd like to add.

One thing I'm wondering though:
Did you try asking?
Asking what?

Still really excited about Battle Angel Alita.  I like the anime eyes.  Got used to it really quickly, and it's the kind of bold move I find endearing/memorable.

The eyes were strange, but I hope they're meant as more than an artificial gimmick.

As in, in anime eyes are used to convey emotion. I hope they're used in this context, rather than a "look! Anime eyes!" context.

What's this about anime eyes? It sounds like an anime.

I just washed the dishes for the first time in aaaages.
Also today I finally got around to hitting up K-Mart for some government funded work clothes. Next time the cat decides to piss on my stuff, I'll be prepared! Now, I just need to overcome this heat-fuelled lethargy and work up the energy to exercise, and this will have actually been a fairly productive day, despite the warmth. :)

Also, I've discovered the joys of adding nooch to baked beans on toast. I'm still experimenting with nooch, but this is definitely the tastiest use I've found for it so far.

There's a live-action adaptation of an anime where main characters' eyes have been digitally enlarged to make them look more anime. Here's the trailer that's sparked some discussion. Personally, I don't think I could handle a whole movie of that but I hope other people enjoy it.

Thanks. In hindsight I realise I should've just asked "is it a live action movie" but I guess I'm just naturally needlessly convoluted.

As for the thing in itself I'm a bit in the edge. Maybe I'll get used to it. Looks a bit extra strange if it's just her though.

Also. Isn't Japanese girls getting eye problems from real life "mangaisationing" of their eyes a problem already?

I think people in america do the "mangaistioning", or what ever it's called. nothing like permanently fucking up your eyes to have anime eyes

From the article I read, it's just her, probably because she's an android or something (I didn't watch the preview itself yet)

The director says it's a stylistic choice to make her more expressive

Alita is a cyborg.  Just like the innumerable other cyborgs running around in the Battle Angel universe.  I know how these rumors of her being a gynoid got started, and the only way they will stop is by informing people, so I will.

Definitely time to take away Cameron's CGI card.
