It does. But it's like twice the cost and generally comes in three flavors: vanilla, chocolate and "we just stuck a bunch of crap in some vanilla, enjoy"

My son used to have a milk allergy, so we had coconut milk ice cream and almond milk ice cream and soy ice cream. They all suck. Now he's grown out of the allergy, so I don't even have solidarity anymore. There's a tub of Breyer's Thin Mint ice cream in the fridge right now (yes, with chunks of Girl Scout cookies in it).

You know what? I just ate a bowl. Fuck you, intestines. I'll wash it down with some kefir and mentally prepare myself for hours of agony tonight. Totally worth it.

You can, and I used to. But it's kind of hit-and-miss. If you take lactase too soon, your stomach acid denatures it and it has little to no effect. If you take it too late, enough lactose has reached your gut flora to cause a bloom of fermentation and the resultant cloud of hydrogen, methane and carbon dioxide.

Eventually, it just stopped having much effect at all, and they run about 75 cents to a dollar per pill. Cheaper and easier to just avoid dairy.
Yogurt isn't typically a problem, nor is kefir. Any kind of fermented dairy product really, because it's already pre-digested, if you will. If it's probiotic enough, it actually helps cushion my system against dairy. But there are limits.

Whole milk? Might as well swallow a frag grenade.

I always take comfort in knowing that lactose-intolerance in adulthood is in fact the evolutionary norm in most mammals, and lactase-persistence is in fact a relatively recent human mutation. You mutie freaks.
