Well it must mean that either US universities start easier or high school goes to a much higher level.

I don't know about US, but in Canada, there are generally 3 tiers of Highschool course, University, College, and Workplace. University classes can count as pre-reqs for University or College courses, College is prereqs only for College courses, and Workplace are basically so you can get your Highschool diploma and either go straight to work or do an apprenticeship. So in general, the University courses are going to be harder/more in depth/higher level concept than the others.

There's also a fourth one, "M" for Mixed, as in University/College.

Like, "SPH4U" "SPH4M" "SPH4C" and "SPH4E" would be the course-codes for Science PHysics in grade 12 (4th year) for University, Mixed, College, and Workplace respectively.

What's the difference between "University" and "College" in Soviet Canuckistan? In the US, universities are usually just bigger.

Basically? White collar office workers tend to come from colleges, where you go for a college diploma after a 2 year program. Academic and professional workers tend to come from Universities, where you go for a Bachelors degree after a 4 year program.

You want to get confused even more, in my university each school, like the one for engineering and physical sciences, or for the arts, or agricultural studies, is called a "College." Like "College for Engineering and Physical Sciences."

So that's the difference between the two. I don't think I've seen a college over here.

In AMERICA, all that seems to matter towards going to college is that you met the minimum to graduate, and you have enough money to throw at the people who run the college/university. Well, apart from the ones like Harvard and Yale. Then you might actually have to had worked in school at some point in time.

Aye, it's mostly contextual here. If it's a whole institution, then it's the white collar thing. If it's a sub-set of an institution, then it's a group of programs and academic fields with certain aspects in common, all under a dean. One dean per college~

The way I view it is Universities are for acquiring knowledge for knowledge sake, Colleges are for learning how to do jobs. These are vague overviews and there's some overlap (including degrees that are done half at a college, and half at a sister university, often Nursing is done this way for example).
