I got accepted into Guelph. Plus a 2k scholarship, though I am unsure if the scholarship is a sure thing or if I am merely given a chance for it. Woo~

As far as the debt thing, remember a little over a year ago when I got the "Bull In A China Shop" Steam achievement* for doing $15,000 of property damage in a single night?

Well that debt (to my friend's insurance company, who was trying to get my insurance to pay, only to have my insurance company jump for the first loophole they could find and say I wasn't covered) got turned over quickly to a debt collector in California who is so crooked that they have their own Wikipedia entry.

They harassed me for a while until I told them I was conferring with legal counsel, to see what my options were. The lawyer I talked to told me flat-out, "Tell them to piss off. $15K is chump change, and if they threaten to sue, its a bluff because legal fees will eat right through any money they might be able to squeeze from you. Wait for them to *actually* do something."

Was scary as hell to take that gamble but I did. Didn't hear anything for almost a year and then got an aggressive call the other day that ended with the guy saying "oh okay so you want us to sue. Fine." And hanging up. Without confirming my current address or any other info.

Then a few days later I got a form letter talking about how I qualified for a "special offer" where I could basically give them my tax refund and call it even.  . Fucking parasites. Since I'm expecting to have a net tax liability, maybe I should send them my tax bill....

*OK, there is no such achievement. But there totally should be.

So apparently the next Touhou will be a spinoff game rather than a mainline one. It's 弾幕アマノジャク (translation: Danmaku Amanojaku) ~ Impossible Spell Card. As the title implies, the main character will be Ryuuko Seija. More info will be forthcoming next Reitaisai, which is next month. This info is from /jp/ posting about a livestream that I can't even watch, though, so take it with a small grain of salt.

As long as they don't screw it up quite as badly as they did Civ5 (making roads cost money? What the fuck. And IIRC the reason given, it was purely because the guy "didn't like the look of all those roads in Civ4"... AESTHETICS IS NOT A REASON TO FUCK WITH GAMEPLAY! It's a reason to make it LOOK better but don't FUCKING CHANGE THE GAMEPLAY) then I'll be happy.

If they can re-capture ANYTHING from AC, I will be amazed and pleased.

They could just take the core engine of the original, use the Civ 5 graphic engine, include the SMAX faction designer as a slightly more stable function, keep the goddamn unit designer, and rebalance a few technologies, and you'd have an excellent game right there.

Taking bets now on how far off the mark I'll be.
