How do you work out what the power is?

Because I want to see how secure my passwords are (from brute force, at least), but I have no idea how you work out the power. Or if it's a fixed value.

length ^ (possible characters)

I guess there are 94 possible characters.

I haven't changed my protopassword since elementary school. Before I start trying to sell you guys kitchens, just want to say it's been grand. o7

The power is basically how many chracters there are to choose from. A password system which only allowed letters and is not case-sensitive would have a power of 26. An alphanumeric system which was case-sensitive would have a power of 62.

And that's assuming you know the length at all.

If you only have an upper bound on the number of characters, it's (1-number^length+1)/(1-number).

Most of those stop with spaces, periods and punctuation in general. And names screw them up.
