You can measure yourself too to get the basic idea--you measure under your breasts, and then across them, and then sizing charts online will let you know which letter you'd fit into.  Different measurements happen because breasts get bigger and smaller, and the fat on your ribcage under your breasts can expand and recede, too!  Lots of women have to wear different-sized bras during different stages of their menstrual cycle, for example.

I, on the other hand, am so flat-chested I have never needed a bra to do anything, which is kind of nice.
