If I celebrate any non-Christian winter holiday, it will be Saturnalia. Less a holiday and more a six-day period where the whole world turns into Vegas

So it's like practice New Year's Eve, then.

What kind of world do you live in that you don't like getting free stuff and eating cookies?
One where getting free stuff and eating cookies during the holiday season means less opportunity for free stuff (and/or food) and cookies during the rest of the year :-\

Also the one where the people getting you free stuff may not be able to afford doctors visits or whatev' because of it, which I think is a significant amount of MZ's objections. It really cuts down on the awesomeness of free stuff when it means a loved one suffers needlessly because of it.

... but yeah, I actually like a lot of the Christmas time music. I just wish it wasn't so concentrated. Less 24/7 during the month or three leading up to the holiday, more occasionally during the year. I think that'd both make the rest of the year nicer, and the music itself less grating when it shows up (since you're not bombarded with it constantly for weeks and weeks and weeks).

Come to think of it every single celebration of the year for my family seems to revolve around burning a lot of things.
You should come to Südoldenburg/Northern Germany during Easter - bonfires everywhere, people from the neighborhood gathered around them, laughing, drinking, and occasionally restructuring the fires with a tractor.
Of course, the prohibition on burning your yard trimmings helps keeping this tradition alive - a main motivation to make these fires is getting rid of all that stuff. People have rather large gardens there.

I'm going to do the smart thing here and disengage. This isn't a hill I paticularly care to die on.

I tasted haddock.

I want to get amnesia so I can forget about it and try it again.

You have never had haddock before? Such things surprise me, though I did know someone who hadn't eaten a real strawberry before until he was about 14.

Haddock is practically our national dish besides the silver darlings.

6 espresso shots. It's like the contrast knobs on the universe got turned up to 11, and everything slowed way down.

And there's chaos when push comes to shove, but it's music to my ears.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.
