I read through Romantically Apocalyptic today, and I loved it. Zee Captain is best Captain.

Just came across a nice little Roller Coaster Tycoon exploit that I wish I realized earlier.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

EDIT:
I figured it was classic avatar week. Had this thing eons ago.

And I did this research in order to find the most efficient way to profit from Go-karts in general. I kept on using 10 laps for a long time (with matching excite price), assuming it would profit the most. Oh, how wrong I've been.

Why not the flying suit or the power armor, itnetlolor?

Now do research on the profitability of launch coasters. Those things are mad cheap and hella valuable for how long they last. Now we just need to figure out the optimum launch speed/track segments for maximum excitement. Sure launching guests from zero to 40mph instantly seems problematic, but they sure seem to like it.

I would assume coasters would just be those little disks to keep rings from forming on tables, so basically just a hotpad for lunch?

Or the equivalent of what I'm thinking of with a few track segments deleted and launch speed cranked way the hell up.

Like with the Go-Karts, I would assume shorter track = less time = more customers/hr; time is key/money, if anything. Who cares about how fun it would actually be IRL for the customers?

Just make sure it has at least a loop in it, and maybe a walkway or another ride going through the loop, and surrounded with tall scenery that takes up 1/4 tile each, and cover the perimeter (yes, they all raise excitement; not by much, but enough to rake in more dough), and then profit off it, and adjust accordingly over time.

Compact seems to always win with rollercoaster tycoon 1. Plus it's fun sticking everything in the smallest area possible; I built one large theme park using maybe 40x40 total space. Only one square of the ride needs to touch the ground when built, so I had like 3 vertical layers of rides connected by ridiculously convoluted walkways.

Never played any of the later incarnations of rollercoaster tycoon though.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

You just need to start on the ground. After that, provided you can spare the lost change, you can keep building higher, and then remove the lower segments, and place the starting point up high, as well as the rest of the track. Similar can be used when building a roller coaster (entirely) underground. Just gain access underground first, and then remove any exterior evidence of it being outside.
