My family can be traced back to Edward III. And this is all you need to know about him: he declared himself rightful heir to the French throne in 1337.

:3

Ain't he quite leet, eh? :P

Anyway, I am happy because I've stopped getting as many computer viruses as I did. Having 6+ viruses weekly was not fun.

Oh hey, the recurrent geneology bit!  :D

Which reminds me, I'm happy because in slightly over a month the 1940 US Census gets made public. For a semi-pro geneologist like me, it's gonna be like a kid in a candy store. A very large candy store with no map and dim lighting.

Most americans are hilariously "mixed breed", really.

As are the English.

The English are by definition a certain type of mixed breed that sorta became it's own 'breed' by virtue of power, actually.

I can trace my grandparents families into early XX century, but to get anything before that, I would need to go through obscure Ukrainian, or, more possibly, Russian archives, given my country was occupied by three other countries back then :P

That's me. But my grandmother said it was full of faults, so neh.

For one thing, my mother never married my father, yet it says husband <_<

How...? Why?

If we're talking about interesting mixes of nationalities, i have one friend who is Maori/Chinese, another who's Russian/Chinese, another who's French/Chinese/Mauritian native, and a fourth who's French/Italian/Indian/Malaysian.

And I'm comparatively whitebread with my English/Dutch/Scandinavian. :P

Sorry for the double post.
Is Dinesen a common name? Because I definitely have a Dinesen somewhere back in my family tree.

It's not the most common, but neither is it the most rare.

My branch of the family all have Skovgaard as a middlename though.

Also, my biological family is huge, with grandma and great-grandmother had like, 7 and 13 siblings respectively.

We don't see any of them though.

It basicly just means Son of Dines though, so whoever had a dad named Dines when the lastname reform hit in the 17th-18th century (Forgot which.) basicly got this lastname.

Dines is danified Dionysus.

Ah, family histories. I descend from crazy awesome. If you've ever read the history of the O'Reilly clan, you'll know we're a bunch of nuts. I mean, our earliest ancestor won land by chopping off his hand, and won due to technicality of "First to touch the land, wins". With a sick sense of humor, our coat of arms features a bloody hand on it. Looking back, where was this kind of information when I needed it for Chaucer Day at school?

Fast forward to my grandfather, during WW2, a kamikaze crashed into his boat (I think it was a battleship), and there was near-catastrophic damage, since it cleared out much of the topside, and punctured the inside, as well as a series of fires all over the boat. In order to save the ship and it's crew, he had to order everyone to cease everything and patch things up, all in the middle of a battle; and wouldn't you know, the ship came back along with most of it's crew, and he was awarded a medal of honor (or something equally awesome).

Regarding the rest of my family, let's just say that there's almost never a dull moment around any of us, and my uncles are legends amongst the NYPD to the point that their influence even affects local police in town (where I live) to take it a little easier on any of us, provided we mention their association (apparently the local sheriff has learned alot form them as well). Of course, they're retired, but they had balls throughout their entire careers. So much, that even the rest of the clan was rather intimidated by them, they know how to get things done and crack down on wrongdoing.
