Yeah, Wolfy is that guy in our class.
While we were all pootering around with making the form for our programming project last year, he'd finished all the actual coding and design and had moved on to building games into his :P

Wow, I kinda derailed the happy thread. That makes me happy.

It's a program from my book that converts numbers to Roman Numerals. I had to do each number individually, 1 - 10. It's nothing special at all, really.

I'm taking a college class for VB, though, and it was the only course that was available online at the local college. I would definitely have preferred Java or any of the C languages, since you can do more cool stuff with them. You take what you get, though, and I'm still enjoying the heck out of it.

On top of my last post here, I think I learned the most important lesson today I've ever learned.

The lesson is it doesn't matter if you're right. Attempting to convince others you are right and they are wrong is futile and in 9 out of 10 cases will lead to grief. If you want to be happy in life, you gotta learn that sometimes it's not worth doing that. It's not worth throwing yourself in a ditch to provide a point or destroying a friendship to sway that friend's viewpoints.

If somebody or something is going to change, they're going to do so on their own volition, not because you told them they were wrong.

Well the important bit is that c#, VB and Java are all very similar languages in implementation, it is only in syntax they really differ for the most part. C# can do a few things Java can't, and Java does something differently to c#, but for the most part anything you learn will carry over easily.

What's funny is that the degree I'm going for requires a class for each of those. :P

Eh, they are all the same language, just in different dresses. Even python is trying to be unique by putting on a skirt instead, but I see through her game.

Now if only there was an easy way to get unique graphics and music, game development would be so easy!

The only person who will be looking at my code is me :P

And VB indentation is horrible.

I do contract software testing, two contracts I had were in the same group; so I ending up working on code I had written myself 2 years previously... and then had someone else maintain.

I literally cannot overstate the importance of good comments. I had everything commented, but a lot of them were 'what' comments, not 'why' comments.

It's vitally important to explain in comments if there is a reason you used a particular pattern/construct/method.

Otherwise you'll end up looking at your own code, and wondering what the hell you were thinking at the time.

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

This applies to more than just coding!

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.
