I finally went after mount and blade, and had my first huge(for me) battle.
Minds were blown.

I made my first, fully functional and professional feeling program in Visual Basic.

It even presses a button when you hit Enter! :D

Visual Basic is fun, we were using it in maths today to make a program to calculate geometric sequences, I got bored and made the numbers dance if you let it idle for too long.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

anyway, I wouldn't advise starting with VB, go C# instead. I have MS certifications in VB, and they are utterly useless.

Unless you lack choice, like it's for a specific project.

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

Most schools go with VB because it is 'easier', although I find c# easier than VB, but being so used to c# could have something to do with it.

I ended up getting really pissed off at it autoformatting my code though, because I like using my own damn indentation.

You will indent like everybody else indents and you will like it!  :P

Honestly, I can't stand it when people do weird things with indenting. Makes it a bajillion times harder to read. Java is annoying enough where they don't use a line to open a block...

The only person who will be looking at my code is me :P

And VB indentation is horrible.

VB is pretty fun to use. I loved how Visual Basic Studio would give you a code snippet to put in. I made my own very basic browser based off IE8 that was designed to be as lightweight as possible.

They always say that, until they need trouble shooting, and them BAM somebody is hit with a wall of unreadable code.
Why haven't we seen you in the programming thread? It isn't like we are some elitist club, hell it is one third tutorials, one third error fixing and one third bitching about java || c#.

I'm the one who was wandering around the class debugging everyone else's work :P

And I've just never got around to checking out the programming thread.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

I know that feeling...
I remember the first time I ever programmed was in a school IT class. The teacher said we were going to be doing programming and everybody was really excited because they thought that meant flash games. I was sceptical, thinking it would be making really boring programs that count to ten and shit like that. Turns out I was right, except that it wasn't boring, it was really fun!

Anyway, the kid sitting next to me already knew a bit about VB and had programmed before, so at first everybody was going to him for help, but after just two weeks they had given up on him, and I was the class programmer guy. Best feeling ever! And from then on, I knew what I wanted to be... And now here I am, an unemployed programmer.
