Here's a free read of it.
What... What is this? I read the first and last pages. Is this the most psychotic fan fiction/parody ever created? That's what it looks like.
EDIT: Never mind, I hated it. It failed to capture appropriate aspects of the book, and was immature and disrespectful to one of my favorite pieces of literature. Hilarious find, though, if you enjoyed it.
House of Leaves is an uplifting tale about a family moving into a new house and overcoming their problems. It's also about a tattoo artist falling in love and getting off of drugs.
It's actually an insanity-inducing read and annotation of a review with annotations about a movie that doesn't ever exist about a house that doesn't exist but does and does not exist and has a hallway that goes on forever with a maze of featureless rooms and a giant stairway and stuff.
It is actually a story within a "story" within a story, and perhaps even one story more. It's totally insane and mind-rending and awesome and everyone should read it. Especially if you've ever wondered if a story can be told entirely through footnotes. It can.
It's also a decent weight loss tool. I lost 5 pounds on the House of Leaves diet, and you could too!
(seriously, I lost about 5 pounds throughout my reading of it; it freaked me out)
This is one of the best books I have ever read. I don't have enough praise for it that I can put into words. It's in my top 3 reads, next to A Song of Ice and Fire and right above The Stand.
If anyone has ever considered reading it, just go get it, and read it. Now. Or, whatever time is convenient for all rational thought to take a vacation.
And a note to anyone who found it confusing: Pick up his
Only Rev
oluti
ons; its language and style is entirely poetic, it reads two (or, if you do it right, four) directions at once, has some "nice" color-coding (especially o's), and is full of words that don't exist as they are. Allot of them.
House of Leaves obsessing makes me happy. I need to go buy the book. Somewhere.
