I ended up doing basically the same thing.  The cool thing about gradual replacement is that if you keep the parts you can potentially reassemble your original machine.  Kind of odd how I managed to get my data into a different computer by replacing everything but the hard drive.

Well...
It would seem Steam hates me for using Japanese.
I managed to install it on the root account and connect with no issues.
I think it's because root is set to English.
Here's hoping moving the directory to my account and running it with language set to English will help.
It's possible, though, that the connection issues are a problem with not running as root.

Not bad for the price. Should get the job done. Looks sensibly reliable too.

My newer card is a tank I somehow managed to cram into my computer with a second hard drive, and a replacement power supply that looks like a jungle inside. I'm surprised it stays cool, all things considered.

Despite all this, my machine is running fine. Plus, I might finally, finally, FINALLY; for real this time, get my old (probably obsolete by today's Apple standards) MacMini returned from my sister this Christmas; thanks to a business expense deal my sister found (and gave a computer to my mom while at it with the package, still for business; dirt cheap per-computer in the package). But yeah, my sister will finally have a proper replacement, and might return my old mac to me. YAY!

What was it, 3 or 4 years I've owned it, and 2 of those years were spent over at her place? I've got a bit of work cut out for me when it returns. On the plus side, I came up with a few solutions to try out for patching it up in a jiffy. Plus, at least this time, I have the resources to pull them off.

Well then, it turns out installation was a problem with being Japanese, but running it was entirely permissions.

Great! Coincidentally, my computer suddenly started working again this morning! Clearly, there are some computer problem amending forces at work today!

edit: Dammit, I accidentally hit the power switch and now the computer refuses to start again. Fuck et al.
