I've been looking around Newegg and TigerDirect for computer-related stuff. I saw some decent deals in my mail. Especially during Black Friday weekend. Newegg has Shell Shocker deals that once in awhile has a surprising deal. Kinda how I got a very nice set of speaker for my machine for dirt cheap.

You can refine your search through those pretty swiftly too.

It's now the end of the world.
Dammit! And I still don't have my party aircraft carrier.

Well. I'm trying to think positive about my ordeal so can you guys help me out a bit and get a little in the Christmas spirit? I wanna know what some good midrange or even lowrange laptops would be. I may of been a computer major but I'm still way out of touch for what might be a good deal or not...

So does anyone have any suggestions a somewhat financially strapped family might be able to come up with?

Because I pitch HP everywhere I go, I recommend the HP G62. If you order online, you may wish to upgrade to the dual core model, though.

What I was going to do when getting a new computer would have to come completely out of my pocket was salvage some parts from a guy I know.
That way, all I'd end up paying for would be the mobo and cpu.
Benchmark was being able to run Source engine games.
Estimate was, for everything, 400 dollars, with salvaged parts, 120.
Remember, laptops and prebuilts are for people with money.
Netbooks are overpriced for their specs, but the cheapest you'll find whitout building your own.
I've personally had good experience with Asus, but checking newegg, their prices seem a bit higher than some other brands.

I'm also a bit strapped for cash, and am looking for a decently priced graphics card that won't crap out on me or can't play TF2 at all, because that game is sort of my relaxation lifeblood. I already play it at the lowest settings possible to maximize framerate, so whatever I get just needs to get that much done.

Well, Newegg seems to have more deals worthy of a glance, but I can't really find anything that I would call affordable. Black Friday had some options worthy of a look (of course) on that site. That's laptop (not netbook) deals, of course.

Well, you can see for yourself.

Not the best selection, but these are what I could find within a 200-300 range.

Haha, what?
That's a computer?!

For all the parts involved, what's the point of a keyboard-puter.

Haha, what?

Oh yeah, I should mention that a nice case can be easily built from styrofoam salvaged from dumpsters.
Protip: If you pay more than 25 dollars for a case, you're getting ripped off for bells and whistles.

Dumbest thing I've ever seen.

My graphics card also blew out pretty recently, and since Newegg is pretty sparse when it comes to cheap graphics cards, I bought one from my cousin, as I recently mentioned.

Man, why's everyone having computer troubles lately?

All computer parts are designed to fail around Christmas.

I'm just glad mine is doing fine.
Now that I'm running Linux, all that seems to be an issue is running a few Windows programs.
Hell, I think installing DirectX through Wine may even help with that.

Yeah, I realized if I got a new graphics card I'd need a new power supply, and then I figured I might as well get a new CPU, which means I need a new motherboard, which means I need new RAM, and GTX 260 is a behemoth of a card so I might as well get a new case while I'm at it.

So yeah, putting together a new computer pretty much >:/

Duke:  This looks pretty nice for what you're doing, assuming the rest of your computer's up to snuff for it.
