Yeah people survive millions of voltage all the time, that's nothing without POWER.
Voltage times CURRENT is POWER/WALTS.
No way in hell are you surviving getting blasted by a lightning bolt, there would be nothing left.
Yet somehow people do and things are left. It's a wonder of the world.

I'll have to agree with Cow on this one Toony. There have been many accepted cases of people surviving lightning strikes. I think the electricity moves through your clothes or your skin or something, and thus survivors will have charred clothing and third degree burns running down their bodies. And it doesn't kill you because it doesn't discharge into you, merely hits your shoulder and runs down your side into the ground. However, if the electricity is channeled through the torso then there will be major problems.

ToonyMan, the current passes along the outside of the body. Yes people get severe burns. Yes people end up with severe nerve damage. But unless it passes through the spine or heart (it usually just passes through the shoulder, down the side of the body, and exits through the foot) it is unlikely to kill you.

NASA said so!

Also, most of the current is discharged into the ground or something stupid. I don't see how that makes a difference, it still passes through you.  Oh wait it's a static discharge, not a continuous electrical current.

I'll offer a suggestion.  People survive being near a lightning strike, like standing next to a metal fence as it's blasted.  Millions of watts passing through your torso would fry you, but instead people just get singed and knocked off their feet.  It's the heat and blast, not the electric current itself.

What that, eh.  I don't know.  I've always thought my whole life lightning made things go boom and catch on fire.
Or at least their insides boil.  I can see what Duke's saying though about it going THROUGH you and not necessary HITTING you.
Alright, we're cool.

That means don't stand on a insulated chair in the middle of a lightning storm.

That would be bloody, that would be what I'm talking about.

You still end up with very severe burns, but they are localized.

I also blame District 9 for this confusion.

Like, at least 10% blame.

Did it again.  Final essay for English was a 5 page report on a genocide/similar atrocity of my choosing.  It was due at 4:00PM Tuesday.  I began at around 11:00 AM on Tuesday, chose a topic I knew nothing about (Saddam vs. The Kurds) and finished it around 3:30.  I'll need to check the grade once the server's back up, but I saw my professor leaving another class and she said it was great.

Still a badass.

All but nine people in my grade are failing science.

I'm not one of them.

So today was my birthday, and I'm now another year older. Best part was the banana bread. I also got Minecraft a account today.
