Completed Alan Wake, although I haven't played the DLC stuff, and I probably won't.

I enjoyed it, although I have to say I found it more funny than I did scary. It might have helped if the enemies didn't come at you while spouting educational facts... But I can't really play scary games anyway, so maybe that's for the best.

The music Poets of the Fall did for the game was pretty nice, I really liked "The Poet and the Muse".

I don't mind that people play footage or display pictures, but it's weird that seeing images of the 9/11 attacks still elicits an emotional response from me.

It isn't that surprising, really. We'd gone nearly 200 years since the last time the continental U.S. was directly attacked (IIRC the attack on Washington D.C. during the War of 1812/Anglo-American War). Pearl Harbor was an event of similar proportions for that generation, as well. It seems to me that it is rooted in the belief that no enemy can really harm us at home, which itself is based in the old idea of oceans as defensive barriers. So yeah, it was essentially a wakeup call for a lot of people, that we aren't immune to attack on our own soil, and it isn't unreasonable for there to be a lot of emotional turmoil connected to that, the deaths in the attacks aside.


OT: Guy next door apparently celebrates Easter by listening to a musical about Moses. I had to work pretty hard to keep my laughter down.

Plus you know, it's the nature of basically all images to evoke some kind of emotion (though that's probably beside the point).

Also, my roommate just came back with one of the biggest piles of candy I've seen in a while.

Watching movies is like drinking; if you're doing it alone, you're in a sad situation.

Watching movies alone is a lot better than watching one with people who don't like it as much as you do. Or even worse, with people who talk during the movie.

Damn straight.


If I want to watch a movie, I want to be sucked into another world for a couple hours. If I want a conversation piece, I'll pull out a board game.

That reminds me: Found a player for the D&D campaign I've been planning. He's playing as a paladin, using the Paladin of Freedom variant from Unearthed Arcana. Dude serves a deity of travel and luck.
