Long absence for me.

I'm working on a game:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I also have a video up if you are interested.
Make sure to switch it to high quality :)

Lots of work still, I'm just starting on the interface and actual gameplay. Right now it is just sort of sandboxy.

If I can get my hands on a scanner maybe I could post some of my original sketches. I like to doodle them out before I start putting them to pixels.

Anyways, I hope we can keep this thread alive!

I wouldn't consider the thread able to die, honestly. Art takes time man, and I for one can understand the slow pace of posts here.

Gah, I need to find a scanner sometime so I can really contribute to dah artz here.

I kinda suspect the slowness has more to do with the three DF art threads, the Random Things you [created] thread, and the fact that many of those on the forum who presently do art are throwing those skills into forum games instead of stand-alone pieces. I've seen quite a few things in FG&R/RTD that are of enough quality to be here, but they'd just seem out of place.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

Yeah. A lot of variations are required, not just for features but for the three age steps. So 3D is obviously the best way to go about it.

That, and I cannot draw to save my life. :P

Looking good. You could tone down the specularity a bit though. He looks quite sweaty compared to the CK2 portrait.

Yeah, that's intentional. These people are supposed to live in feudal kingdoms with no technology and very loose standards of personal hygiene.

That is some quality pixel art. I approve!

Also, the game seems a bit like Star Wars meets Dwarf Fortress. Color me interested!

So I decided to switch from sketchbook pro to gimp, and I must say I love it.

I have been away from the forums for a very long time, but I have returned now.
Here, have some drawings I made.
I am trying to capture the old-school feel of older fantasy art.

No I'm not psychic. I just know that this is dwarf fortress. and the most stupidly awesome and inexplicable thing is probably going to be the first thing to happen.

hmmm, I really like that first one, but the guy on the right in the second one looks a little... strange. But if your interested in old-school fantasy art take a look at some warhammer stuff, I think that's right up that alley!

M'kay, well this is the first serious drawing/painting/digital-art-thing i've done in a while (now with gimp which I love a thousand times moar than sketchbook pro!)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

just a little sunrise, spent maybe 45 minutes blocking it out, finding the right values and adding the lighting.

I'm curious to what others think of it, especially the water and the sky, of which I really don't know how to draw (the sun too) and I feel like the water worked only out of luck so some advice on that would be appreciated too. Other than that i'm not really sure how to go about adding more detail, I feel like it's... barren, which it isn't supposed to be I just wanted it to look... vast? anyways any critique/advice/help appreciated!

Is a new drawing an acceptable reason to double-post? if not sorry!
