I don't see how that could be construed as a joke, or funny in any way.
You obviously don't hang out with people like me then.(Crazy assholes that is.)

Balathustrius, have you finished that awesome tileset you were working on? I have a friend that is very interested in perhaps playing DF and he would like to use it.

Atleast, I believe it was you that was working on it Bala, I can barely remember anything nowadays.

Here's the main menu background for the programming project I have decided to try over the summer; a dystopian city builder inspired by a certain bay12 thread. The 5 levels of decreasing nastiness have to do with the planned social heirarchy. Thumbnailed for big-ness.

Your art is always very... rich, Red Fortune.  I think that's the right word.  I like it a lot.  Are you going to clean the edges on that one up a bit?

If anyone's ever played Obsidian (the puzzle game, not the bland fantasy romp) they may guess the inspiration behind this model.

Interesting model, does it bend in the torso? If it does, is the material it's made of bendable? If not, maybe it's SEGMENT TIME.

I'm not totally sure yet, if it comes to that I'll probably add a sort of giant ball bearing to the lower torso.

Ah, interesting.

Cleaned up the edges, btw.

EDIT: And what do you mean by rich? ._.

It has character and depth, and interesting squiggly bits, presumably thanks to the brushes you're using.  In comparison to very clean stuff (like vector art or the 2D stuff I've been posting) it's got a lot of visual texture.

I use a hard round brush on 100% opacity linked to pen pressure, haha.

Have you ever messed around with brushes like the OpenCanvas 1.1 watercolour brush, or used Painter?  I have a sneaking suspicion that I asked this and got an answer earlier in the thread, but I've got a terrible memory.

Also, on reflection, I may just have the robot bend at the torso.  It's not exactly a realistic or highly engineered design, and it's just for a class thing, so the additional detail would be wasted.

You may enjoy it. http://wistinga.online.fr/opencanvas/ <-- OpenCanvas 1.1 is free, it also supports a networked mode (albeit an unstable one).

I'll look into it.

Do you think it's better than Photoshop? If so, why?

It's not 'better' than Photoshop, per se.  I prefer it for art, mostly because Photoshop is primarily meant for editing photos and OpenCanvas is meant for digital painting.  However, I am god-awful at digital painting and tend to use Flash for everything, so my opinion is suspect.
