It always happens... I make a 3000x2000 canvas, and I think I can fit everything, but I draw things too large when I do them from observation. That image ended up being 20000x13000 or so from so many recrops to fit it, it's the point where it gets laggy. I then just start a new sheet afterwards. Then again, tiling all of my practice sheets together into a massive image would be neato!

Awesome stuff, right there, too.

That's 260 million pixels! No wonder it goes slow, if that's 32 bit (4 bytes) format, that would be around 1 gig of memory for one image.

You could buy more memory. Or just use a smaller canvas. Start with 600×400, and work out from there. :P

A lower color depth is also a satisfying and delicious option. Who needs opacity?

JoshuaFH: Actually I was the one working on the tileset. I haven't had time to work on it but it is almost complete. If you think it will help someone love DF I will try and make it presentable.

Red Fortune: Do some blind contours of hands and then regular contour drawings after you warm up. For me, getting hands right is all about the countours and looking at the negative spaces.

ddSMgjsfasd; blind contours never look like anything to me!

Then again, I have little to no hand eye coordination at all.

Well after some Ensiferum i got some creative juices flowing and me and an urge to draw, since i pretty much suck at realistic faces i gave one a try using this as a reference, the end result was this:

FREEDOM.

And yeah, the blind contours are just warm ups. It's a quick way to get your brain to really look at the stuff that is important for drawing, as opposed to the symbolic information that is important for living functions and communication.

You have freedom? Bah, I don't get it for another week, and then it's only 2 weeks  :-\

Speaking of blind contours - I never finished reading Betty Edwards' book.

Nor any other book. Bleh, I'm such a hypocrite for recommending these books to people.

Indeed.

http://www.icrit.org/resources.html

Read through and practice with ALL of these books, come back, post a new drawing, and compare it to an old one.

That shit would be epic.

Here's the main menu background for the programming project I have decided to try over the summer; a dystopian city builder inspired by a certain bay12 thread. The 5 levels of decreasing nastiness have to do with the planned social heirarchy. Thumbnailed for big-ness.

I think I'm a couple of pages late, and I haven't caught up yet, but I really like this.
Consider it inspiration for something I may be working on later.
