I think that this guy shouldn't be on the streets, period. Would you honestly think that any country that releases mass murderers to be a sane country? Isn't there any public safety concern at all? What if the guy goes on a rampage? He doesn't have anything to lose.

I don't have plans of going to scotland, but I wont even think of going there untill that guy is locked up or dead.

There are nick names for every person on this world
Yes, but we don't rag on the British for King Henry VIII.
There are still people who make fun of brits anyway.
Yes, but for more culturally relevant things people will get offended over. Henry the Eight is generally unused. Let us rag on the Portuguese for the transatlantic slave trade back in the 1400's! I'm sure it will be both a clever insult and one relevant to the internet!

And I doubt this guy would kill more, but still. The idea he is not punished for crimes 'till death(Which apparently isn't too far away) is what the issue is.

RAEG. NON SEQUITUR. SEAL IT IN ADAMANTINE. KILL IT WITH LAVA.

...aaaaaanyway. Back on topic, my opinion remains:

This guy should not be out.
Boycotting Scotland is not going to change anything. It is not targeting the right people, and it is primarily just a reason for people to say 'Those stupid Americans!'. Not that that logic is better than what would have you boycotting all of Scotland.

Everyone considering taking part in this boycott should think about this: This guy showed no compassion when he blew up that plane,* which is, I assume, why you're so mad he was released on compassionate grounds. But if the Scottish government had refused to release him on compassionate grounds, they would have been no better than the terrorists.

For this reason, I'm actually glad he was released.

*Assuming he did actually do it, and wasn't just a scapegoat. He was convicted on circumstancial evidence, after all, and most of the Scottish victims' relatives believe him to be innocent.

1. he's not a dangerous mass murder. He's a frail old man about to die from cancer. Releasing him is not going to unleash destruction on the airplanes of the world.

2. Even if releasing him was the wrong decision, it's just typical American jackassery to blame the ENTIRE COUNTRY OF SCOTLAND.

What about releasing various infanticides after a couple years in low-security prisons?

Any moral problem with that?

This is a parody on the very statement I edited.

Guys, if you would, for a moment, consider something. Not everyone in America is so retarded as for the condition to be terminal. I'm sure that every single country (Up until Mensa uses its physcic powers to make its own nation) has its fair share of stupid people. So, please. Shut the fuck up with America this, America that. You act like high and mighty gits because you were born where you were, but guess-the-fuck-what. We don't get to choose where we are born.

Boycotting Scotland is pretty much the angry people's only recourse. I mean, what, are they going to write an angry letter? "Dear Scotland: RAAAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEGGGG! Sincerely, America."

Sure, it's not going to hurt the prison systems, but it might make the people vote a little differently. It might also cause someone to apologize. Which would help greatly.

So, if you think that people have a right to be angry, but disagree with how their handling it, suggest something other than "forget about it" or "pick a fight with your local Scotsman."

Okay, I'm stereotyping here, but who would willingly do that second one?

Remind me to tell you about the frats I know sometime. Though that could have something to do with the drunkenness.

This boycott is idiotic.  It's not like there's even any way you can boycott a country.  Getting upset over the release of a terrorist, not so idiotic.  Getting upset that a terrorist wasn't exocuted isn't stupid, but it isn't intelligent either.  Think:  These are fanatic people who believe strongly in their cause.  If they died by the hands of our justice system, without any mercy, they would merely become martyrs.

As a side note, my brother's high school peers (an American school) starting protesting when the school started calling the cafeteria's french fries "freedom fries" back when that craziness was going on.  The primary reason was that french fries are frenched, not French, referring to the way they are cut rather than their origins.

Of course is you start calling french fries freedom fires, you're essentially saying France is synonymous with freedom. If at the same time you boycott France you're effectively boycotting freedom.

God damn how I hate that freedom.

Actually its pretty easy and effective to boycott Scotland. The only thing they really export is scotch whiskey and the USA is its primary market. Just don't buy scotch.

If its "typical American jackassery" that scottish people get targeted by an American boycott, I think thats a bit of a double standard.

If you were in Europe as an American tourist you would be treated like goddamn pariah because of the US government's decision to invade Iraq. Hotels and restaurants boycotted American tourists to protest the war from about 2003-2006 and some still do.
