I don't think anyone's remembering the fact that Dave is very much a time-traveller.

If he wanted John to be not dead, he'd just have to go back in time and say 'Oy. Don't do what Vriska says.'

His stable time loops mean that he can pretty much do whatever he wants.


Plus, it seems like Jack can jump between prospit and derse however he wants. So the more powerful John gets before then, the better.

Rose said something about the 'tumor' being a time bomb and that it is ticking. Not sure if she said it started when the reckoning starts, but the end screen makes it look like they are running short on time to get rid of the bomb.

I believe that goes off when the reckoning ends. Thus why they have such a small timeframe, their reckoning started very early.
