"'Systematic' is of course the key.  Well then, I say we find one or two yokels we can persuade into causing a distraction for us, for a share of the reward if need be, then we all be off within a day.  Returning corpses will do us no good."

Hmm...  There's a reason every D&D computer adaptation starts the player off at Level 3.  Just saying.

I've never played a D&D computer adaptation that started you off at level 3.

Anyway, if you want to hire a distraction, I'm sure the drunks at the tavern will be easy enough to persuade.

Looking back on it, you're right.  I know Planescape and Neverwinter Nights did.  In NWN at least, you were level 3 by the time you got out of the impossible to fail tutorial.  I seem to remember Baldur's Gate working like that.

I dunno, I haven't played that many D&D computer adaptations, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did start at 3.  Those first few adventures can be rough, since everyone's so fragile.  Even the fighter can only take two or three hits.

Then again, I don't know many people who could take an axe to the chest IRL, even wearing armor.

"I knew you wouldn't let us down.  Keep in mind though, it will take three days to reach Blizzardsteals if you go at a pace that allows for enough rest to keep you fighting fit.

I know you can do it though, just remember to be aggressive.

It's a D&D game based on Dwarf Fortress.  You knew the risks when you signed up.

(Yeah, but I'm a wizard with no SPELLS yet! D: I'm practically gimped until Level 3. :< I hope you're all very good meat shields....)

"Well, we'd best get going, recruit our drunks, offer them a cut, pay nothing up front, and head out."

We have a wizard, a cleric, a bard, and a monk.  There ain't no meat, and there ain't no shields.

I can't believe I forgot the other time honored aspect of DF adventuring - Drunks.  We'll need some.

So you guys want to try to convince some drunks to distract them?

Or at least help us out, since we're a little low on muscle.  After all, what sodden would-be champion would turn down a chance to rescue children from the clutches of evil goblins?

On the other hand, they're probably not as subtle as the rescue itself calls for.  Hence hiring them as a distraction.  If we're successful the goblin's hunters will have too much else to worry about to chase some trouble-makers.

Hiring drunks is a bad idea. Not only will it diminish our gold.. err epic lute. But it would increase the chance of us getting caught, make sneaking near impossible and simply cause unneccesary bloodshed. It would be best to simply sneak in at night get the babies and get out.

Alright, well, when you guys reach an accord we'll be able to get things going.

You could probably make opposed diplomacy checks to see who convinces the other.
